LAN / QF seat selection issues - 5 year anniversary and no change :)

Mine was booked through AMEX Plat travel service, to try it out. Might be the last time!!

Those green seats is what I was looking for

OT question.

We've got some LAN flights (metal/ticket) booked directly with LAN ... anyway I can get/see these bookings on QFF?

If booked via LA directly... LA uses Sabre so there would not be an Amadeus PNR which is required for QFF to see it.

If booked via a TA that happens to use Amadeus, you still won't see it as LA is not an Amadeus carrier. oneworld carriers that are Amadeus carriers (QF, CX, BA, QR, RJ, etc.) are the only ones that will show in QFF.

Thanks. The LA booking # works however, the Amadeus # doesn't work on LA or QF.

I fly across SYD - SCL on LA806/807 QF 27/28 several times a year - and I can guarantee you nothing has changed. Just in case some new development had occurred, I tried again today - am flying J class next week back to Chile on a LAN marketed QF metal flight.

Yet again I got the merry-go-round with QF saying I had call LAN, and LAN swearing QF were the only people who could allocate seating.

I had a little bit of spare time so I decided to experiment with this in Amadeus because it sounds quite strange that you cannot do seat selections.

I created a PNR with:

LA806 SYD-SCL
LA2632 SCL-LIM
LA807 SCL-SYD

No other segments on the PNR.

The PNR as-is from Amadeus:

Code:
RP/SYDxx_xx_/SYDxx_xx_ xx/SU 6MAR16/0517Z xx_xx_
SYDxx_xx_/xx_xx_/6MAR16

  2 LA 806 Z 29MAY 7 SYDSCL HK1 1230 1210 29MAY E LA/xx_xx_
  3 LA2632 W 29MAY 7 SCLLIM HK1 1610 1810 29MAY E LA/xx_xx_
  4 ARNK
  5 LA 807 Z 05JUN 7 SCLSYD HK1 1430 1745 06JUN E LA/xx_xx
  6 AP E xx_xx@xx_xx.COM

9 SSR RQST LA HK1 SCLSYD/14JN,P1/RS/RS/S5 SEE RTSTR
10 SSR OTHS 1A PLS ADV TKT NBR BEFORE 20MAR16 1611 SYD LT OR

I was able to assign a seat on LA806/LA807 (see the HK1, confirmed 1 seat). I have assigned 14K on LA806 and 14J on LA807. My QFF number is in the PNR and interestingly, it shows in my QFF upcoming bookings list. It is possible that it's showing in my QFF bookings list due to the fact I had thrown a JJ flight into the PNR to start with - this needs more testing. I then called QF, and they can see this PNR I've created, despite there being zero QF coded segments.

So the bottom line is, it definitely is possible to get seats selected on the LA codeshare on QF.

My experience with LA codeshares operated by QF booked from a GDS other than Amadeus is you need to call QF to get the Amadeus record locator by giving them the LA ticket number (045-xx_xx_xx_x). You will NOT be able to use QF manage booking, but you can tell the call centre operator which seats you would like to select and they are able to do it.

For LA codeshares operated by QF booked from Amadeus, there's no other record locator other than the master Amadeus record locator.

Just so people can see how fun this is, I screen dumped the expert flyer seatmaps for my flight SYD-SCL next Monday - one is as QF27, the other as LA806 :)

As you can see, not only is the seatmap "split", but some seats show on both!! (eg 14jK)

After unsuccessful phone calls to LAN and Qantas, who both told me only the other airline can do seat selection (and they tried, it wasn't simply fob-offs), this morning I had a brain wave and tried through live chat.

"Xavier" took my two reference numbers for the flight (LAN/Sabre and QF/Amadeus) and when he looked he could only see the seats as shown in the LAN seatmap above. So he couldn't select 5J which is what I wanted (he simply couldn't see it) but he was apparently successful in selecting 3F for me. We shall see......

So 5Jis a goodie? My upgrade just came through ( different day to you!) and upper deck, my usual choice, is full. 5J Is available, so should I choose it? I'm currently in 2B

rooflyer, a question - are you in MMB via Qantas site? Do you get a split seatmap like as above?

I'm in QF MMB and see the whole cabin. And 5J has gone! C'mon, own up, who else is on this Friday's flight and reading this thread? :)

The split seat map is done when the codesharing agreement is setup that way - personally I find it annoying. QF and SA used to do exactly the same thing when they had the codeshare agreement on the JNB route. There is nothing you can do to get around that until the flight goes to airport departure control.

I assume you are flying on ex-south america issued tickets rather than ex-AU, hence LA being more attractive?

Yes, I live in sth America so all tickets start from here.

BTW, when does "flight go to airport departure control" ?

Simple - RedRoo has blocked it because of all the times you have slighted her/him :)

May as well post here, for info.

I have 2 separably booked tickets. One SYD-SCL-SYD on QF (ticket, metal, the lot). Connecting to SCL-MDZ on LAN (ticket, metal the lot).

I was able to check bags through and get all BPs when first checking in without an issue. :)

Is this the resumption of last year's aborted Mendoza trip RF? I feel a TR coming on...:)

Shhhh... keeping it under-the-radar. A work trip, but I'm sacrificing a couple of days on pa to get over jet lag. Going to hire a car and see the sights, so probably not much tasting along the way.
