So I'm finally going to be flying First Class for the first time later this year. One of the flights will be First Class from Singapore to Hong Kong and I wanted to fly on the A380 to get the Suites. This flight departs at 8.40 in the morning and instead of paying for a hotel, we would spend the time roaming Changi Airport and maybe even getting a little nap in the lounge.

I know that you can check in 48 hours early (assuming this includes bag drop) however how early can one access the SilverKris Lounge flying first class? My intention is that I'd be there pretty early say 5pm (the day before), and heading to The Private Room for a good meal and then hanging out in the First Class section of the lounge. Is this even possible? Am I too early to access the lounge?

Thanks in advance,
Thanh

Pretty sure the SilverKris lounge is 24hrs (unsure about TPR) so wouldn't seeing it being an issue.

But there aren't any nap rooms in either SilverKris/TPR so I would have thought you are better getting a room (or airport hotel) so you can enjoy the First Class experience without being bleary eyed.

You will not have any problem accessing TPR, SKL F or SKL J from 5pm day prior - SKL F and J open 24hrs - TPR closes after last pax last flt leaves lounge - maybe ~1am or so - it is closed until 05:30 for cleaning.

Bear in mind there is no sleeping accom anywhere in SKL F/J or TPR - way down back of SKL J there are some bench seats that I have indeed slept on - staff even brought me blankets - but others will have same idea.

TBH I would be pre-booking a room in Ambassador ST hotel in T3 - 5-6hr block from ~23:00 should see you fronting up to TPR at opening time.

Thanks guys. Good point. Will book a room at the transit hotel for a few hours of shuteye. I'm assuming no issues to re-enter the lounge multiple times?

Personally Im not a fan of the T3 Transit hotel, maybe because the few times Ive stayed there we got a room that overlooks the gates BUT it also meant I could hear every golf cart beep and PA announcement until about 3am.

T1 just remodelled/reopened their Transit Hotel and pool and the walk from T1 to T3 is a very leisurely 10mins (and Im a slow walker)

I have never had a problem with T3 - you may just have been lucky. A fellow AFFer stayed in T1 ST last week - he was in my office here when he booked it - he was on SQ flt and both T3 and T2 fully booked - the room he booked in T1 had no shower or toilet in it - I don't know if this is std in T1 - others might have exp - also hopefully that AFFer might contribute his thoughts.

I've got another ~12 hour transit in SIN T3 end of next month and will more than likely have a sleep in lounge if not heading off to casino.

Hesitant to pay for transit hotel. Will be in Gold lounge and those chairs are quite comfortable.

Have to disagree with you there JohnK... I tried desperately to get some sleep in one of those seats a few months ago. Swore off Y red-eyes forever.

Why would you spend money in a casino but not spend money on a bed to sleep?

You need to try harder. I sit down and start surfing the internet and before I know it I am asleep.

Transit Hotel was fine for us - 6-8 hr block - on more than one occasion. Don't recall any external noise. Maybe just luck on our part.

Have to say I've had the same experience as mrsmart...

Even if it's quiet and you can put your feet up on another chair across from you, still hard to sleep. SQ GoldKris lacks showers and bench seats, it's also pretty small and can get very very busy..

I find the lounge is extremely quiet between 1:00am and 5:00am then gets very busy. See how I go again in 4 weeks time.

Booked a night at the SIN Grand Hyatt to avoid this very issue. I just don't have it in me. :(

For me its if Im on this J class or higher flight swilling champagne with 4 or more star hotels, driver transfers ect - why the heck would I scrimp and be uncomfortable for a layover where I can sleep and shower peacefully.

Its like westerners that go to 3rd world counties and screw down a local (tuk tuk for example) by $2USD and come home and brag about it - I don't understand the mentality.

That's my rant for today - spread your money around people, especially if its for your own comfort.

Each to their own when it comes to travel (or anything really), but I'm with you – money exists for the sole purpose of making life better, IMHO.

Not everyone would agree.

I just spent ~AUD130 for 3 nights in Kanchanaburi including breakfast for 2, ~AUD195 for 4 nights in Pattaya including breakfast for 2 and then I splurged ~AUD120 for 1 night in Bangkok, another ~AUD100 for another night in Bangkok and ~AUD80 for1 night in Chiang Mai all including breakfast for 2.

Why does that make me a lesser person? Hotels is where I save money. And if I can easily sleep in lounge during late night transit why would I go and spend money on hotel?

My life gets better the more I travel. The travel budget is limited and I spend it the way I think would benefit me the most. Just because someone chooses to spend AUD200/night on a hotel doesn't make them better nor does it guarantee better sleep than the sleep one would get in a AUD50/night hotel.

To each their own.
