Qantas launches online auction for business class upgrades with 'Bid Now Upgrades'

Re: QF Introduces Upgrade Bidding

Maybe it's an opportunity for people to upgrade discount economy airfares purchased for them by others (their employer) using their own money (if they don't have enough points or status)??

I agree that it will make upgrading (for status and QC members) at the Qantas Club more difficult though... however in QF's defence if all J could be determined before people arrived at the airport then the arguments about "catering not assured" could be avoided...

Slight expansion of the program:

Premium Economy now an option for Bid Now Upgrades
20 May 2015
Earlier this year we launched Bid Now Upgrades, another opportunity for customers to choose the way they fly by enabling them (upon invitation) to make an offer to upgrade to Business.

Further options are now available to customers to place a bid for an upgrade to Premium Economy, should their bid for an upgrade to Business be rejected.

Note: Customers aren't able to make an upgrade request for Premium Economy as their primary and sole Bid Now Upgrade.

Holding off a 20k points upgrade to U for a PER-MEL flight on an old-config A332, just to see if I get the option to Bid Now.

I wonder if the fact there's a U seat will mean it won't be offered - or if the fact I can afford 20k points will preclude it from being offered to me.

But you dont know if others have already put in a points upgrade meaning you might not get to the auction stage. I am on about 20% of my flights going to auction.

Re: Qantas launches online auction for business class upgrades with 'Bid Now Upgr...

I finally got my first offer! A few days ago I got the offer to upgrade via the normal process for 3 pax SYD-ADL next week and today got the "Bid Now" offer.

Offer opened with the meter on 3000pts and $300/pax, flight is a week from today. Min offer is 3000pts + $180

Interestingly, I have enough points for the standard upgrade; I thought that you would only get 'Bid Now' offers if you were short of the required points.

I have more than enough QFF points and my offers appear to alternate between classic upgrade and Bid now upgrades.

When I know I can bid $50-$60 for SYD-BNE and be successful then I may put in a bid. Otherwise very happy to sit in row 4.

Re: Qantas launches online auction for business class upgrades with 'Bid Now Upgr...

I'm not sure this is a good thing. I put in for a points upgrade BNE to Perth earlier in the week. There is still availability in J on-line, but I received a text telling me that my points upgrade was unsuccessful. I had received an offer to 'bid' for an upgrade previously and wonder if there is a correlation. This is the first time in 4 years I have failed to get an upgrade for points when there are seats available. It's doubly disappointing as I am nursing two broken ribs and don't want to be crammed next to a an oversize passenger on the 737 QF have returned to the transcontinental route.

I'd call QFF and/or ask in the lounge :)

Make an offer to upgrade

I have received an email re making an offer to upgrade a short flight from Brisbane to Sydney with my Qantas Frequent Flyer points. Its the first time I have received such an email and I was wondering what I should offer ? I am not really bothered one way or another. Any suggestions please ?

Re: Make an offer to upgrade

Just read the small print and the minimum points and cash required are ridiculous, no offer from me.

Re: Make an offer to upgrade

if you could post these points and cash, it would be a great data point for us

Re: Make an offer to upgrade

There is an ongoing thread in the Qantas forum.

Bid Now Upgrades

Just received a Bid Now Upgrade email for my next O/S flight next Friday.

Details:

  • Current S fare
  • Bid - Min $550 + 5000 points for J

A few questions.

  • Worth it? (8-9 hour flight)
  • Status credits & points. Original fare or new J fare?

Thank you in advance.

FH

Re: Bid Now Upgrades

I'd bid just above minimum and see how you go.
