I'm told that it rains more in Melbourne on a days/year basis, it just rains more in Sydney on a volume basis. Anything more than a drizzle and Melbourne floods.

I have a vague notion the rainfall volume is similar, just that Sydney has half the number of rainy days that Melbourne does, ie it rains twice as hard when it does rain

Cruiserette is out with her girlfriends tonight so thought I would settle in for a quite drink! penegal? You busy? Wanna drop around?

Steve Smith should have been a comedian.

He has criticised the West Indies captain for not accepting his very generous offer of a first innings declaration of 0/0 then bowl some dollies to West Indies so they can declare and leave Australia chasing 370 in 70 overs for victory.

Seriously? And apparently Boof has checked and there is nothing illegal about the offer. How about the spirit of the game?

For the finance gurus.
A 12 year investment of mine matured at the end of Nov. Original purchase price was $1. It had a guaranteed return of $1.30 rain, hail or shine. Actual return was $1.5757

With no dividends, looking back at this was this a wise investment? The guarantee was what originally attracted me.

CAGR of 3.8% - ultimately not great.
Suspect you might have got more in a 12-yr term deposit at the time

Can't quickly find a 12-yr ASX accumulation index (including dividends) to compare - XJOA for example

Nothing to do with fairness, the physiology of the genders dictate the safe levels.

Thanks for that insight. I meant to just point out the UK had same recommendation for both sexes.

Sydney has an average annual rainfall of 1212 mm over an average of 143 wet days. Melbourne has and annual average rainfall of 647 mm over an average of 150 wet days

If the spirit of the game was a consideration, there would never have been a West Indies tour - a cricket travesty all round. Although I thought Smith's suggestion was silly, at least he was thinking of giving the punters something mildly interesting to watch.

Don't agree with contrived results, even though I am a fan of Steve Smith. What he proposed was going too far. If I were Jason Holder. I would have knocked that offer back.
