Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

I'm a Gold member.

Got some more travel to do to Melbourne this Friday, so hoping to fly down Thursday night to sample the new Hilton.

Nice one! Is that in the Premier Suite?

I had a bottle of sparkling in the fridge my last visit, but wasn't sure it was a gift or part of the mini-bar - so I left it! Not a huge fan of sparkling so wasn't fussed -- but curious to know if I missed out?? Got water and honey as welcome amenities anyway.

I like it too, but wasted space when I've been there solo - and had no intention of doing any cooking!

I agree totally. When I'm here solo (most of the time), any of the rooms will do...I don't much care, but I do prefer either the 8th or 9th floor. When my wife joins me, I like the premier suite because it's big, relaxing and comfortable although a bit dated in style (and to be honest, I'd have to say the rate makes it the best value suite in Oz, IMHO).

Property: Doubletree Melbourne
Status: Diamond
Room Booked: King Flinders Street View
Room Received: King River Skyline View

Today apparently marks the 1st birthday of the hotel opening so theres many festivities, including a canapés and drinks for HHonors members with the GM in the hotel restaurant tonight, although not sure ill be able to attend.
Room is nice and clean with a good view. I personally quite like this hotel despite them not offering great HHonors recognition, I won't need an EL tonight and breakfast will be in and out tomorrow so not really fussed as I usually would be.

At HSW last week as a GOLD upgraded from King Deluxe to 2 bedroom suite. Not bad and actually I had a good use for it that night. Came with exec lounge access too.

In my experience, HSW is probably the most generous with suites to golds in Aus... I've received a suite roughly 70% of my stays there.

Agreed! Even higher % for diamonds. Here for the next 3 nights and enjoying the Yarra suite for the entire stay from king Guestroom. Definitely more frequent upgrades on OLCI than HSYD (my upgrades at HSYD usually granted at the reception).

Room booked: King, City & Mountain view @ TravelZoo $129/night deal
Room received: King City & Mountain View on Hilton Honors floor (7th IIRC)

Not sure I posted this amenity for my recent stay at the DoubleTree CNS:

Room was as I remember them in the HI days, nothing flash but very acceptable. Realised after I read the welcome card upon accessing room that I knew the Manager, so dropped her a note.

I stayed about three weeks ago. No recognition as a diamond and all pretty ordinary rooms offered at on-line check-in. Was given a sea view room at the counter but no card, no cookie and no choc nuts (or whatever they are in your pic). There were two bottles of water in the fridge, but that was it. A friend was staying at the same time, in another room and received nothing as well. My wife stayed at DT-MEL and had to ask for the cookie, it was not offered (both are diamonds) so I think perhaps Hilton needs to educate their DT staff a bit. If they advertise the cookie (which they do proudly) then offer it all the time, not just occasionally or when someone asks for it.

As you say, the DT_CNS rooms are Ok, but the place still has the feel of a "tour bus special" and it won't drag me out of the H-CNS unless the Hilton is chockers (which it has been often of late).
