But hey, the 'carbon tax' looks like it was more fair then a GST hike. Gotta keep those well off happy.
There is a lot more to it than labeling someone well off just because they earn more money than most.

The GST works fine for me as my disposable income is low due to high personal debt and I don't spend as much as people who earn half what I earn.

The carbon tax assumes I can afford to pay for it which leaves a lot less for me to service my personal debt and in turn I get hit with GST as well.

Oatek my first year at Redfern was in 1964.The first day was a strike day so we were all taken down to the loading docks and told to load the vans.Being a fair bit bolshie then I refused as did one other. We were taken aside and initially felt we had done the wrong thing. But instead the Union rep came and shook hands and we were sent to Mail Sorting school. The strike lasted a fair while so I passed the first 4 levels of Mail Sorting school hence why I became the foreman of the student evening shift for the next 5 years.
I think I could claim to be the best trained mail sorter of Australian physicians!

Perhaps, JohnK, its time you got yourself some headphones and zoned out from all that troubles you.
You are probably right. I have been putting off using the headphones and most times regret it. I will make sure I carry the headphones with me at all times and copy some music over to the Samsung S5.

Really. Never realised the carbon tax raised $25 billion pa. was that gross or net after rebates?

It didn't and would never have (as it stood).

it was due to match the EU carbon price which plumetted and only recently made it back up above EUR 8 (although only briefly), so at best it would be raising about $6 to 7bn currently however what consumers were being charged would remain a much higher figure. At one stage (with exchange rates etc, the AUD carbon price would have been under $10 a tonne despite the compensation being paid out at over $20 a tonne, no wonder a number of large donors to the major political parties were not happy. One particular company saw its profits fallen 75% as a direct result of lost compensation.

The EU carbon price has plummeted in the past year, from a temporary surge in April 2011 on the back of the phase-out of German nuclear power, to under [euro]10 a tonne over the past six months as the reality of an oversupply of carbon allowances in

Between the two it is much easier to police a 10% or 12.5% etc GST at cost plus GST then prove the utilities et al were ripping off consumers. Strange how Council rates never fell (nor received a refund) anywhere near what the GST was supposedly going to cost as impact on rubbish disposal etc.

Fondly recalling my mis-spent youth and the havoc we created with exploding fireworks in all kinds of places, I reckon the odd penny bunger or two could have a great effect on bothersome and ill mannered people. At the least it's quite a pleasant daydream to ponder where you could put them!! (it's a joke, folks)

Moved house on the weekend.. sold my bachelor pad and got a family home with the wife.

Made sure I continued with bachelor pad theme and got the tv's on the wall and NBN connected first up.

Unpacking can wait!

You've got the priority tasks done. Now are the drinks cold in the fridge? If so everything's done!

We were quite the little terrors at school.Late in the lunch break we would set up rockets in empty bins. The wick went down into a compartment of condy's crystals which was separated from the glycerine by a thin bit of paper.usually took 10 minutes for the glycerine to reach the crystals and 15-20 minutes for ignition.By which time we were busily working in class.

If you drop a can of fly spray into a 44 gallon drum bonfire you can set off every car alarm with 100 metres.

Allegedly.

Percutaneous Liver Biopsy.

Recommended at Haepatology clinic that I need to do this procedure. Let's forget about the stress side of the procedure. They can accidentally puncture your lungs, gall bladder, pancreas etc. Or you may bleed after the procedure and need a blood transfusion. Oh and there is a 1 in 10,000 chance of dying.

Has anyone had this procedure or know anyone that has had the procedure? I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling thinking about it. I have 6 months to think about it but will have another Fibroscan and ultrasound before then. I am scared of this liver biopsy.
You should try a testicular biopsy then JohnK... added to the 2 testicular aspirations I had (all during IVF), that'll be sure to put a tear in your eye. It did all 3 times for me.... as well as the medical students who sat in on the biopsy...no, I don't even want to go there

If recommended by your specialist, then there must be a damn good reason

Came across this confusingly named licensed restaurant the other day.

Like a true story I heard last Friday.

The XCXCX rugby football players club in our dreams club.

A group of work friends decided to make a trip to the HK 7s some years back. Their partners decided that they needed to be accompanied.

Their friends decided that they needed to be accompanied as well and apparently it ended up that over 40 people were going to go.

Ringleader rang a travel agent (who was honest and on the ball) who asked "And what Rugby Club does your group belong to?"

None was the reply, wrong answer said the TA.

If a group of over 20 people from a registered Rugby Club attends the HK 7s then you get VIP treatment as well as substantial discounts/bonuses. Why not register your own club?

So after a hard days investigation the non-rugby players rugby club was registered with all forms lodged and fees paid.

One very big tick for that TA!

I was playing in the final of the B Grade championships at my home golf club on Saturday.

I was 7 down after 7 holes! I was 11 over par. I was whinging. I was crying. I felt the evil around me. I had given up. Well almost.

What had followed was the stuff of fairy tales. I was 1 over for the last 11 holes with 2 birdies and the last 9 holes are the toughest on the course. I won 1up on the 18th. And what makes the win more significant is I have now won the B grade championship 3 years running. The past 2 years have been 4 rounds of stroke. This year was 2 rounds of stroke with the top 8 playing match play to decide. I thought I was only playing to win the match play but it was for the B grade championship.

What I did was great but spare a thought for the person I beat. You don't see someone losing from 7 up that often. He was in good spirits after the match but I am not sure how he really feels.

It is Rememberance Day today. I always emotionally remember my beloved gassed one-eyed grandfather on this day particularly, and observe a silence at 1100. Also, I like the "check up on a mate", campaign on now.

Not trying to belittle the 11th of 11th but this arrived from easyJet. I wonder if they were playing on the theme or just a coincidence?

Certainly quite clever showing how well they're tracking the first (and subsequent) irregular uses by me of them. Nice reminder of the fun to come in 50 days...
