Woolworths reviewing partnership with Qantas Frequent Flyer.

As much as people are jumping up and down and claiming they'll never shop at Woolies again, it looks like the move from Woolies is a smart one. I think it will have a positive impact on the business.

I'll miss the QFF points, but in reality they never amounted to any useful quantity - have a look at your EDR hub to see how few points you have actually accumulated via this programme.

So overall I can't see this changing my spending patterns.
2 cards, just over 387K in points is not something I would really call not useful

Just got an email from QFF.

10% discount on Dyson products from the Qantas Store.
From an expert on all things that suck well?:mrgreen:

I shouldn't have to spend so much effort in finding cost effective wandering

Fred

I for one will continue to shop at WOW but only because Mrs.Radio has a staff card and we get discount, however I will also be looking more closely at the deals offered by Flybuys to start building up the points there, instead of just blindly shopping at the one place.

Does Woolies still give its employees a 5% discount.?

I worked for Marks & Spencer in the UK a few years ago, the staff discount card which was 20% .... I Loved that!

yes 5% across the board, except at Dan Murphy, and they also have promo periods where they offer 10% at BigW or Woolies for a weekend or a day

Check the figures provided by Wooloworths themselves and others. Only a small number of EDR holders achieved anything useful from the programme. Hence why they are abandoning it.

See for example:

'Internal research obtained by The Sunday Telegraph reveals 60 per cent of Everyday Rewards’ members who enrolled in the Qantas Frequent Flyer program failed to redeem points for anything in the past year.'

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I really should have paid a bit more attention to the special offers. A bit more than 12K during the program.

OTOH I will make a purchase for Master WF to ensure he gets another 18 months for his existing 5K QFF points.

Happy wandering

Fred

Woolworths Online Deal of the Day | Groupon

Shame it's not the 7.5% offer again, but I am surprised that Groupon are allowed to handle this after the multi million dollar stuff up earlier this year when they had to replace everyone's electronic WISH cards - including those that had already used their own or someone elses.

The changes by Everyday Rewards/Woolworths are poor to say the least.

A 1% discount after spending $700 is not going to drive more business. Nor is it offering bonuses on certain products people don't buy. People want instant discounts they can see.

The option for converting Everyday Rewards to QFF points was a good option and should have remained in one way or another. If not direct sweep then let people decide.

We are not going to Coles. That wouldn't be a rational decision. We shop because we need to buy groceries not to earn frequent flyer points. Earning frequent flyer points was icing on the cake. Mum breathed a sigh of relief when I told her the other day.

Woolworths Everyday Rewards: supermarket revamps loyalty program, ditches Qantas points

I was just about to post that quote: "The research found 60 per cent of Everyday Rewards members signed up with Qantas had not redeemed points in the last year, and a third of those had never claimed their points."

I found that Mrs Warks has something like 60 000 points solely from WOW shopping. Occasionally she uses my card when there's a bonus points offer but usually we get the same offers. She would qualify as someone who hasn't redeemed points but is a keen user of the card. She would probably just sweep them to my account to buy some air tickets eventually. We've been piling up the points - I don't think I've redeemed QFF points in the last 12 months either but you couldn't call either of us uninterested in the points. One year is scarcely long enough to judge. Three years maybe.

Exactly. Many people collecting QFF points aren't frequent flyers using points as soon as they get enough for something. They are saving them up. They have a target in mind and reaching that might take a number of years. Just because someone hasn't used their points in the last year, doesn't mean they won't or don't care about getting them

And there'd be an argument that those who save their points are amongst the MOST engaged customers, with multiyear loyalty to both WW and QF.

It all just goes to show that the Woolworths market researchers and NoNews.com.au have something in common :
No clue what ways people (points chasers I think the Woolies blurb referred to them ) actually earn and redeem points.

I've been a member of Flybuy for several years. I'd estimate the value I've gotten from flybuys to be around 5 times that I've received from EDR for comparable spends.
I'm not in EDR for money off my shopping and I think if you did a poll here you'd find that the majority have that point of view. I'm purely in it for the points used for high value premium cabin redemptions and upgrades. I'd spend the money on groceries somewhere but for the last few years I've been able to get the annual equivalent of a one way first class upgrade from SYD-LAX. The "value" in that to me is quite considerable.
YMMV

To me another failure by WOW was not bringing Tasmania into the new scheme.Definitely no point me shopping at WOW when I am working there.

To be honest, it's quite a relief for me.

I've recently moved suburbs and now have an extremely conveniently located Aldi. I'd been umming and ahhing about whether to shop at Aldi for the cheaper (and usually better) products, or to continue around the corner at WOW.

This makes that decision much easier....I will be focusing on Aldi and banking the savings. No need to worry about swiping a card!

I have a team of about 40 where I work and I think about half actively collect QFF points with a long term view. Its certainly a topic of discussion around the "water cooler' quite often. Only a couple as far as I am aware have actually ever tried to redeem points with the rest saving for that big trip in the far distant future. (and no doubt some will be hugely disappointed but that's another issue) Taking all this one step further, the few of us that have redeemed points have not done so in the last 12 months so in this office at least according to WOW 100% are either fatigued or disinterested with the scheme which is certainly not the case
