Seat 1K-Emirates with a QF flight number QF8762 MEL-AKL good choice of seat?

For those of you who have done this flight.
Its not missing a window is it?
Had a look on Seatguru, and as you all have mentioned in one of the replies to a TT post on here, there is no visible storage area next to the window, that I can see. +++ that is what I want.+++

And even if the QF F lounge opens at 6am, and boarding at 7.15am, I would still have some time, as I am overnighting in MEL (from ADL).

Qantas website shows a 6.15am opening time for both the J and F Lounges.. so you will have pretty limited time I suspect

I only drink cider, am not a wine/champers/beer etc or other hard liquor drinker, so if no grog, I can bear with that.
This is only and only chance to see what the QF F lounge at MEL looks like, next shot, so to speak will be SYD F in Jul, aim to get out to CHC to see snow in Jul at Arthurs Pass.
Won't make SG again with 120x4=480SCs, more or less but all the flights will be in F on the way out of Aust, and then either J or whY back to Aust.
After these test runs, I will go back to either PS or NB.
2017 is my 20th year with QFF, fondly remember when QF used to fly SYD - KUL, that was my first taste of QF int in 1998 if I remember correctly.

The amount of lounge time will also depend on which date you are flying. From 25OCT the QF153 (MEL-AKL) moves from a 1200hrs departure to 0730hrs, making it the earliest QF metal flight of the day; currently that mantle is held by QF171 MEL-WLG at 0825hrs. If recent history is any indicator, the lounge opening times will be adjusted accordingly to accommodate premium pax on this re-timed flight.

There is, and 1k is it!

The curtains to the bathrooms are right next to the row 1a and 1k, so you'll have people flicking past all through your flight. Sure, you can shut your door, but the noise still may bother you. And press one wrong button on your sear and the bloody door opens a bit, so you need to hold down the door button to cycle the door fully open then closed. Also, the bathroom attendants hang out just on the other side of the curtain, so you may hear them chatting away (though they are usually pretty quiet)

I'd usually like row 3 - away from both ends but a little closer to the door than row 2.

Storage space in F on EK is bizarre - there are no overhead lockers so you need to put your wheelie beside your legs and strap it in with a little seat belt. So it's hard to get to stuff. They compensate with three little compartments which are just big enough for you to put stuff in them and forget it. On compartment has a mirror in it so you can see a "blind spot" where your stuff may have rolled to. The only positive is that they don't have the window lockers like EK and QF J which keep popping up every time you put your elbow on them.

Your going to love it AP - I chose 1K and didn't have any issues with the curtains, people flicking past or noise - I was too busy enjoying the experience. Yes there is a well places window

Agree with above comments and great pics.

the only other comment is that row 1 has 2 windows (the furthest forward in the space is missing) but the other rows have 3. You can still absolutely see out and about the ones you have, but if that's important to you then maybe row 2 or 3 is the one to go for.

They used to have overhead bins up there IIRC but pulled them out which is strange. Just being told to put my bag in with me at the front seemed weird and not that secure but not a huge deal with small HLO/overnight bag.

It's not a night flight so people going to the loos or lavs won't bother me.
Not interested in using the inboard shower either.
Come to think about it though, in board camera will be what I want so will most likely change to row 2.
On my CHC - SYD EK flight, I had to put screen back in J on the 777 so no chance to see camera on arrival into SYD int.

Pooch the 0810 departure (assuming inbound is on time) in Dec means plenty of Flounge time. Last time I flew it they started boarding around 0730 IIRC.

I'm surprised you wouldn't opt for the shower option just so you can "do it" at least once. Sure, if you start the day in MEL (as you say you're overnighting) you would have had a shower already that morning(or the night before as some prefer) but heck if you're paying for F and it's offered (sometimes it isn't on T.T. though more recent flights have had it offered) then why not? it's only 5 minutes It's a lot of fun.. but totally your choice (I don't bother on T.T. myself, but have done it on DXB-MEL and oh boy it was bliss, as well as a fun over indulgence).

Re the camera view, yes you can use that start to end in F. With the windows you get a pretty good view too. I like the right side (K) inbound to AKL as you don't have the sun streaming in and get some good views coming into AKL. That's just my preference tho

No criticism implied Pooch but you've noted you don't intend to use the shower, you don't drink wine or champagne - these all seem concrete reasons to pick F over J on EK T.T. (excluding SC's which I know you also want to chase) - you wouldn't use the bed on a 3 hour flight and the food is almost exactly the same in F and J on that sector - and it's a pretty average breakfast service too imho - Flounge much better and obviously cooked to order. so I'm wondering what the main reason is for picking F? the SC's? to say you've done it? Just for the Flounge access? Elsewise I suspect EK F would be a bit wasted on you given your stated preferences. Just IMHO.

Agree with others - avoid Row 1 entirely. Rows 2 or 3 A/K would be the ones to go for.

There's one thing you forgot to mention: the door! Being able to close that door and be in your own space without people constantly offering you champagne, chocolate covered dates, turkish coffee, newspaper, magazines, etc is ABSOLUTE BLISS!

Those little metal and rubber slip guards on the floor are there because that's a small ramp into the toilet area. The toilet curtain is just out of shot on the left. It's at the same angle as the slip guards, so it's quite close to the 1K door. If you look in the reflection of the fake wood burl (ugh... don't get me started on that) you can see that the toilet curtain is open through which you can see an attendant and a toilet door.

I would also suggest selecting row 2 or 3 in preference to row 1. You should also consider trying out the shower, its quite lovely, including the heated floor. I think I was the only passenger to use the shower when i took this flight earlier this year. The "shower attendant" was a little surprised at my request, but at least it gave her something to do on the flight. There are two shower attendants on the flight and apparently their sole responsibility is to maintain the two bathrooms in First class. They don't hand out any amenity packs but if you ask nicely there may be spares from the previous flight. Enjoy the flight.

This is my one and only ever chance to visit the MEL F lounge, in Dec.
Granted that the $ difference in fare over J is about $400, but still, I will be able to say "cross that off my bucket list".
I could pull it off, going MEL - SIN in F with EK on the 19.00 departure, longer flight, evening one, so full meal, but I have to pay more, and also have to phone up QF telephone sales to do the booking MEL - SIN in EK F with a QF flight number.
Note too that the IFE in the 380 is fixed, different from the IFE screen in the EK 777.
3 windows would be the advantage for me. (Probably) will stick with 1K.
Now, apart from an equipment swap, or if something happens and I get put onto a Jetconnect, I am looking forward to this.

Pooch the pics below are of 1A on the EK A380. I had pre-allocated 1K but the F/A directed me to 1A. When I showed her my boarding pass for 1K she just said it was the same thing which I thought was a bit odd but wasn't going to make a big deal out if it.

My main concern was someone else being allocated 1A and me being in their seat. As far as I could tell there was only one other pax in 2K in the F cabin.

There's one thing you forgot to mention: the door! Being able to close that door and be in your own space without people constantly offering you champagne, chocolate covered dates, turkish coffee, newspaper, magazines, etc is ABSOLUTE BLISS!

If it is anything like my recent flight in F AKL/BNE they'll only toss everything at the F pax in the first 10 minutes before doing a vanishing act soon after.

They have another job when not attending to the F Pax : cleaning and re-stocking the Y toilets Quelle horreur!!

Don't forget the other role is to race back to the galley to continue chatting with their FA mates.

are you after the best experience, or just 'Row 1' on your boarding pass?

if there is an equipment swap or something else happens, you can either get a refund (if no first class is offered) or fly the next day.

i probably wouldn't go down the refund path because if it is anything like qantas' refund policy (which the airline still won't give us any insight into how it's calculated) you may end up with little or no money back.
