Hi there, I'm looking to finalise an itinerary over the coming weeks to Latam, and I'm looking to utilise my Amex points for the Cancan to NYC leg on the 7th November. I'm flexible on NY airports however I would prefer a direct flight seeing it's only a 2hr30min flight.

I have 1.3 Mil Amex points and Apx 500K Qantas FF points. I'm a Platinum status.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated (I did google this, but it's made me even more confused !).

Thanks in advance.

You can transfer certain AMEX points to Starwood Preferred Guest then to AA. You loose half going to SPG but gain 5,000 extra per 20,000 on the transfer to AA.

I'm assuming you mean Cancun...You might be better off transferring Amex Points to Avios (British Airways) which transfer at a 1:1 ratio. CUN-JFK can be redeemed on AA using 10,000 Avios for economy and USD $47 in taxes/fees. I don't see availability on 7 November, but 6 November is showing seats available.

However, reading that you have 500K Qantas points, you could use those to redeem on AA without the need to transfer.

Thanks for that..... I might be a little naive so please excuse my question if it appears ignorant :)
How do I use my QF FF points to book on the AA website ?. I didn't know this was possible, or are you saying I book a codeshare on the QF website with my points ?

No, just search for an award seat on the QF website. It should be able to sell you an award (assuming availability) on AA without the need for a codeshare.
