Re: The totally off-topic thread

Not forgetting the cram and slam method.
That's how I always pack - got a serious 'cough kicking' from Cruiserette on recent European Vacation - so thought I might try a little different method when packing tonight.

I'm a neat packer out bound, but homeward I just wrap fragile things in clothes in middle of case then "cram and slam". TSA usually b*ggers up any neat packing anyway as they rifle through my cases.

I use the Eagle Creek Pack-it Pack-Itâ„¢ Garment Folder Large - Garment Folders | Eagle Creek
Stops clothes falling around the bag, especially when we leave, as the bags are almost always not full. Easy to see which garment you want each day.

Ten minutes to pack. Why so long?

Re: The totally off-topic thread

For decades now I have never really needed to actually "pack" (or "unpack").

I have two sets of just about everything (clothing, toiletries, IT-stuff and so on) . One set for home and one for travel.

And on trips I just replenish the travel items as I need to (including clothing). It means I don't really need to "unpack" or "pack". I come home and my bathroom and clothing are ready to go for Melbourne. And my bag is (pretty much) ready to go for my next trip.

Works for me anyway.

Cruiser you are welcome to try before you buy. Perhaps for next trip I can post a couple down to you

Outdoor stores like Kathmandu have plenty of different sizes to separate your clothes. We bought a full set but now we just use the basic straps most cases have as standard.

I do this too, Austman. It saves so much time and thinking. I also have two small stacks of extra clothes - one for hot, one for cold.Plus I have a spot for my passport, luggage keys, and any coins/cash for each country in snaplock bags ready to go. Ready in ten mins! Mind you it's taken years to polish the system of 'chuck it in just in case' and discover you have half a suitcase of unused clothing. I was never able to combine the words 'overseas travel' 'pack light' and 'discard' in the one sentence!!

I've recently got into a similar habit. So much easier not having to pack and unpack every weekend.

I was doing the same when travelling most weeks, but not so much now. Have found more joy in doing slightly longer trips - then doing lots of quick weekends away.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

I use packing cubes. Mostly just put them onto shelves and don't unpack the smalls and T shirts. They are packed according to item and labelled.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

With the drop in JQ's HL allowance from 10 to 7kg, I will have to be a little more prudent with my packing for my month away later this year.

For JQi there is a bit of a work-around possible (ex AUS at least). But I think 7kg is difficult!
