The impact of the viognier may be the issue here-palates may not be used to it...is ut too funky? Or is there another apt adjective?

As for Shiraz Viognier, I don't mind it. Even as little as 2% can add another dimension which, as you say, some may not like.
Glenlofty make some good stuff so when my budget recovers I may keep an eye out for the SV.
 
Still waiting for my Wynns to ship; at this rate it'll arrive while I'm on holidays...

Def not funky. I'm sure the Viognier will become more subtle with age, but even now provides an interesting enhancement, rather than a shock.

I decanted mine for about 2 hours before sampling. The missus also enjoyed it - she's generally more a Cabsav than Shiraz fan - and was amazed at the price.
 
On the Glenlofty SV - I found it very soft and approachable but clearly some potential for improvement. Subtle oak treatment, quite fruit-forward. Paired well with sweeter curries and opened up nicely with some airing. The viognier is more obvious than some others I've had (Turner's Crossing, Clonakila and Laughing Magpie but it's not a fair comparison given this cost $8.xx). Definitely a good quaffer with some potential, and a nice contrast to some of the other $10-ish mof_s I'm using as house reds (Quattro e mano tempranillo, 6Foot6 shiraz, Amelia park cab merlot).

Good to hear. Personally I found the Viognier overpowering - the addition of a couple of % completely altered the wine for my palate. Glad to hear others are enjoying it!

Tried the Bethany last night, very impressive wine after it opened up. I would have been disappointed if I had of paid full price for it but at $36 I think its a pretty good deal.

Yep, I've had a handful of these the last year or so and they are ageing far too quickly for my liking. Within 2-3 years the complexion of the wine has changed considerably. Not in a bad way just in a "I paid so much money for what is a great wine now however may not be in 2-5 years time".

For $36 though, very very happy with that. Get on board that boat I say.
