Choosing between a points upgrade on QF93 or QF18?

I am QF18 in May. I currently have 14B although I asked the agent for a window with a side compartment exit seat on the upper deck. I used to able to get that on the old 747, does such a combination exist now?

In the end, I've got a 50,000 point sign up bonus with ANZ so I plan to upgrade on both flights. :)

Your agents needs re-education

It's gotta be an A or a K seat for side storage.

That was the Qantas premium line, I asked them for the specific seat. I realised the side storage must be on the side ;) but which is the upper deck row that has all the leg room - it used to be 16. Is 14 now?

The upper deck rows are 11-16. Even on the lower deck there is no row 4, just a couple of crew seats.

I wonder if the 14 exit window seats have a side bin? Sorry to be so prescriptive as to where I sit.

Does the cabin have a row 4?

I thought I've answer my own question having just flown on QF93 and QF18. As so happened, I signed up to an ANZ credit card with a large point sign-up bonus therefore I had enough points to successfully upgrade on both flights. As much as I tried to sleep on the flight over, I wasn't able to and ended up tossing and turning in the skybed mk2 until I gave up and watched TV. I arrived in LAX, flew to LAS and then grabbed my rental Mustang and headed off to Hoover Dam (ran on adrenaline until about 9pm that night and then slept very well!)
I also upgraded on QF18 and that was a much better use of points as it gave you access to the LAX J lounge, which was far nicer than sitting at the gate for 2hrs during the layover, and I did manage to sleep on the LAX-SYD leg.

In summary, the upgrade on QF93 from PE to J probably wasn't that useful as I didn't sleep anyway. But QF18 was well worth it!

My experience with start of holiday adrenaline mirrors yours. Glad to see you were granted two upgrades!

Good to hear that both requests were successful!

Exactly, I now don't really worry about how tired I'll be on my first day as I know I can run on adrenaline for 36ish hours.
