I've just started looking properly at my Qantas points and after much reading it appears claiming flights and a higher class gives the best value. It seems I can look book First Class return tickets from Sydney To Auckland and can select the A380 Emrites flights for about 100,000 points plus taxes. Is this all correct? I know there are a lot of catches when claiming Qantas points and just want to make sure I haven't missed something big and find out later it's not doable or very hard to get. I would only be a Bronze member also, but it seems when locking in reward flights as long as it's available it is locked in at booking, different to the upgrade process?

Hi and welcome

Yes you can use your points to secure award flights on Emirates Flights. The Trans Tasman Flights are popular as a way to try First Class on Emirates and experience the bar and the shower.

Once you have selected and booked it is confirmed. All that is needed is to pay the taxes and surcharges.

Happy Flying.

Thanks :) I'm guessing for this particular points target it's relatively straight forward with no real catches.

No no catches and it is simple 108000 points and approx. $160.00 in cash payment to cover taxes and other charges.

Enjoy the shower on board ;)

BTW I don't think you will be eligible for Chaffeur Drive though on the short tran tasman sectors.

IME the shower isn't always offered (and perhaps not offered?) on trans-tasman flights. Also I'd describe this a First "taster" because, again only IME, EK doesn't seem to provide the full F experience on this short flight.

Can confirm NO Chauffeur Drive in either direction.

On any EK F Flight I have found you need to ask and have never had any issues on the Trans Tasman crossing. Agree it is not Full on experience in way of food IE no caviar however no difference when o\it comes to drinks ie Cognac Hennessy Paradis Rear

You may have to ask to use the shower as its not typically offered. There are two attendants on board who look after the showers so at least it gives them something to do. You can also ask for an amenity pack, they might have some left over from the previous flight, the men's one in particular, comes in a lovely leather look zipped bag.

Oh yeah I've had the shower on quite a few EK F flights, but never on the SYD-AKL. I just wanted to be clear so the OP wasn't disappointed. The only time I've been in F on SYD-AKL I asked whether they offered the shower (I didn't want to use it; was just curious) and they told me not on the trans-tasman.

I managed to do SYD-AKL-BNE for 75,000 points and $160- Mid April 15 on a multi city. It worked for all combinations between MEL/SYD/BNE - AKL, so long as it wasn't a return flight. I did mine on the same day - I don't know if that makes a difference.

When the FA's found out I was doing a day trip just for the experience they really looked after me, I came back from having a shower to find slippers, PJ's, amenity kit and an Emirates canvas bag on my seat - then they came around, handed me another Dom Pérignon and took an instant photo and gave it to me in an Emirates card they had all signed - I know this is not the norm for this short hop and should not be expected but one can be lucky

Good to know they still do the polaroid! Marge and I still have our first one on the fridge from a SYD-DXB where we are standing in our EK PJ's behind the J bar and I'm doing one of those I'm-drunk-on-Dom-but-pretending-to-be-sober faces... ;-)

C'mon post the photo ;) :D *just teasing*

You definitely learn something new each time you come onto AFF and today, I learnt that the crew can take polaroid photos on Emirates. Maybe I can borrow the camera and take a selfie in the bathroom ha ha ha ha ;)
