The Walk of Shame

 Love this thread! For once WPs can do the DYKWIA without being put back in the box by WP1s. ;) I feel for you Russ. If it's any consolation, I used to proudly walk into J Int Lounge until I found AFF. I even did that once as a newly minted WP, not knowing that I was entitled to F lounge. I supposed you can call that the walk of shame too!

Afraid the elevator is (almost) right in front of the F Lounge also - to the right as you exit the escalator at the top.
Either way, you'll be passing it - using the elevator though exposes you for slightly longer. ;)

The lift leads up from the pier A/B transfer security area on the arrivals level. It has three stops, arrivals level, departures level & QF lounge level.

The short cut stairs were blocked off when they built a duty free store between security and the departure gates.

Is it true that in cases like yours, they welcome you into the lounge with a PA announcement "we'd just like to welcome Mr Russ to the business lounge, and hope you will be comfortable. Bit of a come down from the First Lounge though, isn't it? "

It has all the charm and decor of the Cessnock RSL club (before the refurbishment, of course)

I didn't check in to the lounge because the dragon queue was too long. I just walked in. So, noone knows I am here except people in my support group such as yourselves.

The horrors continue: they just made an announcement that the lounge was at capacity and could everyone please remove bags from seats to allow others to share. They are now comings around and enforcing it.

Quelle horreur you have to put up with.

I feel for you russ as I too will be heading to the International Business Lounge (or is it worse an International Qantas Club?) soon as I soft land to SG. I do not travel too often on routes with First Class.
All this could have been avoided without the F&S changes or even a double SC offer and the family would have gone to SIN in J instead of Fiji on FJ. QF missed out on quite a few $$$.

Well by the sounds of the thready to completely avoid the walk of shame, you'll need to catch a domestic to MEL and fly out of there instead. When you duck down to the intl bus lounge, the escalators leading up to the F are barely visible yet.

The short cut stairs were blocked off when they built a furry FTE store between security and the departure gates.
I often wonder if the lower entrance to the stairs was just rerouted into the staff security screening room (on the far right adjacent to main passenger security)? I once went through this security room, as part of an overflow due to volume of passengers, and noticed that they even seem to have a corridor off to the right after screening, which bypasses the whole duty free maze and shops-loop-around, when heading to the "other" pier at SYD T1. Anyway, I haven't gone back past the QF J lounge, along the walkway, to see if the upper exit to the stairs are still there - has anyone?

IMO SYD needs to employ someone from IKEA in their maze designing: so that only the infrequent, non-initiated passengers are forced through the full length of the maze, but those in the know (who are most likely to be barreling through, between shop fittings, at full speed, trying [often unsuccessfully] not to side swipe merchandise off the shelves) can take hidden short cuts to where they need to go - without knocking over slow moving, dazed, unfamiliar travellers, caught in the maze of; bright DF lights, signs and overpriced merchandise.

When I saw this pic I couldn't help think of this episode.. :P

There's very little meat in these gym mats...

Suffer, Russ, with those of us who have been demoted as well. :) he J Int lounge is not something to look forward to in Sydney we have found. CBR QP is heaven in comparison.

Really? It has been a few years since we have been in it, but from memory it seemed OK. Do they still go round with extra bits - they came round with mini ice creams once - the kids liked that.

The last few times I've been in the Syd J Int lounge it has been very ordinary. Crowded, noisy and the quality of food offerings much poorer than QP dom.

Looks like the stock standard Hilton b'fast slop ... that's the reason we stay at FS, MO or other suitable hotels

Don't they just send down the uneaten scraps from the F lounge through a garbage chute? 'Reconstituted Eggs Florentine, anyone?'

Having never been there, this thread has piqued my curiosity in perhaps having a look inside the J Lounge when I am in SYD in a couple of weeks. OTOH, that would mean less time in the F Lounge, so perhaps not...

Seriously, I think they should be ashamed of this. The managers should be sent off for retraining. I don't remember if the lounge is under contract to others to run, but if so, I hope there's some sort of performance review.
