Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

Did everyone have to pick up their cards at a branch? ie. they will not post it out to you like most other banks...

Mine got approved last week and the letter should be coming this week.

Yes, I had to go to the branch.
Maybe they use it as an opportunity to try to sell other services. They were very keen asking me if we wanted any loans

I wish I could get this by switching from Earth Black!

Thanks, being impatient I rang up today knowing the letter would be coming soon to see what branch it would be sent to. They didn't have any info from their end and advised me to wait until I get the letter. Hopefully I get it by Thursday because that would be the only time I have this week to get it.
Btw what's with their opening times being 9.30am?!

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

My cards turned up in the mail today despite being told I would have to go to a branch. First transaction completed.

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

Anyone knows the website to be used to register for the Qantas Lounge Passes? The one on Westpac sends me over to the Earth Black registration page and then rejects my credit card number.

TIA.

Im interested in this too. Is it 2 lounge passes after first spend on QF products? I have no current reason to buy a QF flight but would like the passes. If I buy a fully flexible fare and cancel it after I close this credit card will there be any issue in 1: having it refunded to a different CC & 2: keeping the lounge passes?

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

My cards arrived in the mail this week. I had to contact them to get the rewards changed over from Altitude rewards to QFF. I was told that any purchases made before the switch is finalised (could be up to 10 business days) would accrue under Altitude, not Qantas. I also registered yesterday for the QP passes but then was told that if the account is set to Altitude, then the QP offer may not be processed properly - you are not eligible for the QP offer when you are under Altitude. There is a PP offer instead.

So what I'll do just to be sure is to wait for the switch to QFF to occur, register again online, then make a QF purchase. I don't need the QP passes due to my WP but I will give them to Mum.

Yes, you have to buy QF products. See the link 2 posts up.
Generally they have to refund it to the same cc used.
If that cc has been closed, it will appear as a credit and you can then contact your cc company to send that surplus to your bank a/c (or even a cheque depending on their terms).
You also get to keep the points that were earned as a result of that transaction.
I doubt there would be any issue in keeping the lounge passes.

If you are not going to buy a QF flight, then when would you use the passes (if for you)? Surely not when going on JQ ;)

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

Thanks for that. Will consider doing it.

Its more I don't have any foreseeable need to book a QF flight in the next 2 months or so prior to cancelling this card. I will certainly fly them at some point just don't know when exactly so lounge passes are still of use.

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

I guess having refundable purchases to use as "credit" for "free" points is one way to increase your points balance... if you have a plan to cancel said card and don't mind the hit to your cash flow/capital.
YMMV

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

Does anyone know whether you can change points earn to Altitude points, after getting the Black card with the 60K Qantas point bonus? Thank you

Not looking to increase the pts balance (there are plenty of better ways than this for a measly few hundred pts). Its its not my ideal solution but better than buying a flight I don't need. Does a wine purchase through Epicure count to get the lounge passes? That would be something Id actually have use for and just got a 3k bonus point offer for every dozen purchased.

I haven't tried it on this card, but with other QF earning cards where a QF purchase earns bonus points, Epiqure does not count as one. I've done this on at least two different card types and Epiqure does not count as QF spend.

This looks pretty clear to me:
Terms & Conditions - Altitude - Westpac

6. Qantas Club Lounge Invitations. To be eligible for the two complimentary annual Qantas Club Lounge Invitations, you must first register at altituderewards.com.au and then use your Altitude Black card in Australia to purchase selected Qantas products and services. Selected Qantas products and services are the following items purchased directly from Qantas: Qantas passenger flights (with a QF flight number), Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club membership joining and annual fees. Excludes Jetstar, Qantas Holidays, Qantas branded non-airfare products and any Qantas products and services not purchased directly from Qantas.

A gift voucher has counted as QF spend on other cards so my guess is that it will with this card. In case you are looking for the future...

This is what I'm planning to do. Asked the chap in branch and he said that it would be possible.

Though he implied when I do they would have to send me a new card....

I'm not sure whether to wait til the 60k points come through before switching, or switching right away

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

In regards to the QF spend, is it sufficient to book a oneworld award using QFF points and the westpac card to pay for the taxes?

I went to the branch last week and collected the cards. Can anyone confirm that the welcome letter is posted separately. The bank employee scrunched up the letter with my cards on it and said there wasn't any use for it before handing me the black envelope with the details inside.

Also, I was thinking of signing up for the Platinum too for the 30k points, but does anyone know if it's one card per customer limit?

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

Does anyone if you still get the annual fee waiver if you apply for the card online?

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

Possibly, you could get the fee waived after the fact by ringing up. But I wouldn't take the risk - why not apply over the phone in the first instance?

Shouldn't take more than half an hour

Waiting would be the safe way to go!!!
