Hi,
Ant tips on how to Book one-way from Amsterdam back to Melbourne ? Most Aussie websites either seem to charge too much or don't allow.

Also after any tips on best value and Airline (I like Singapore but can be expensive).

Trip in June 2015, any other advice appreciated - I am an unfrequent flyer and have no points or anything like that - just a tall self-funded retiree,

thanks

Some questions, first
1) Do you have any airlines that you won't consider flying?
2) Do you mind, for example, taking a short flight or train to elsewhere in Europe, spending a night there and departing from there, or would prefer to go direct from Amsterdam?
3) Do you want fully flat (horizontal) seats, or are seats that are flat but lie at an angle to the floor OK as well?

Malaysia Airlines has a way of getting very cheap business seats if you don't mind flying them.

I didn't price it but their other offers have been "interesting"

1. High speed train to CDG.
2. UL biz CDG-CMB-KUL, UL code share (MH) KUL-Australia

I feeling on the budget side, buy a economy ticket and bid for upgrade...

Happy wandering

Fred

go to googleflights and enter in your dates. It will give you the range of fares (across all classes and airlines) based on local prices. And it will include a link to booking.

One ways are usually expensive anyway, but you might find some good deals on smaller airlines. You might also want to break you search Europe-Aisa and Asia-Australia. Separate tickets, but could be substantially cheaper.

Hi Digger 11. Have a look at Qatar Airways - I randomly selected a date in June from AMS to MEL and price is around AUD$3.5k one way via Doha. I haven't personally flown Qatar, but my father has and says it rates as one of the best airlines he's flown in J (along with SQ).

Thanks,
i was budgetting around A$2,500 but this was when our dollar was a lot stronger. Not happy the dollar has dropped so much, just seems to make everything more expensive but the Govt. seems to want us to think it is a good thing.
i will look at Qatar, thanks for the tip, maybe they will have a special as about $3,000 would still be ok.

1) Do you have any airlines that you won't consider flying? My wife wont fly China Southern/Eastern , Malaysian , Garuda, Vietnam etc. so am stuck with the more expensive ones.
2) Do you mind, for example, taking a short flight or train to elsewhere in Europe, spending a night there and departing from there, or would prefer to go direct from Amsterdam? On holidays so can fly out from anywhere.
3) Do you want fully flat (horizontal) seats, or are seats that are flat but lie at an angle to the floor OK as well? Just more legroom really, but something a bit better than Qantas Premium Economy where the seat in front really encroaches on your personal space when reclined, ie watching movies becomes difficult.

Malaysia Airlines has a way of getting very cheap business seats if you don't mind flying them. I know they would be fine, but my wife thinks the might crash.

thanks

For june, the sweet spot looks something like Paris.

Full business class to SYD/MEL on air india is USD2200. There's a three hour stop in Delhi (which is now about the same as BKK, so perfectly fine for a short transit). It's a 787 the whole way with full flats beds. Or for $300 more you can fly Etihad/Virgin.

Or for mixed class, you could fly to either Singapore or Bangkok, from where you could pick up Jetstar (star class) or even a good economy on Singapore airlines to get you home. You could get a mixed class one way for roughly the AUD2500 budget.

From Paris to SIN is USD1460 on Sri Lankan. To BKK, you can do Etihad for USD1600 (or Aeroflot for USD1390).

I agree with some of the carriers you mention on the 'no-fly' list (including China Southern - bad reputation during travel disruptions; Viet Nam Airlines - angled beds), but others are quite ok. China Eastern has a good product with flat beds (a friend of mine flew them recently and said the service was ok), and Garuda is now very good, but outside your budget - more expensive than Qantas and Emirates.

Nothing wrong with MH at all

I am sure they are fine, but with 2 recent crashes and a sexual harassment claim all over the news, the chance of getting my Wife on an MH plane is precisely and exactly a big 0,

it would be a bit like that scene in Rainman at the Airport.

cheers

You could always choose different ✈ carriers! and fly separately.
