I've got the same as you amaroo. I've got 6 nights coming up in Hong Kong but I'm unsure of a cheap way to top up for another 4. Any thoughts anyone? If I could find a perfect GUM run with a stopover at NRT using USDM, I'd try SYD-NRT-SYD JL F before it's gone and stay at a Hyatt in Tokyo but that's very hard to achieve and I can afford much (any?) more time off work...
Love the latter idea about remote checkin and checkout. We are short-changed here in Australia with Hyatt properties, especially with the losses of Coolum (I'd have 150+ nights there over the years) and Sanctuary Cove (been there twice and would have been my fall back to Coolum if it wasn't lost to IHG).Great minds eh.. Precious little annual leave left myself but I'm burning some AA points on JL F and staying a week at the Park Hyatt using DSU on a corporate rate offering ~2500 JPY per night. Then onto Hakone resort and Kyoto properties.
I was offered 65k bonus points for 25 nights like most Diamonds who stayed a reasonable amount last year and/or maxed out last year's promo. The offer is appealing, so I started looking at a few mattress run options and tossed around a few ideas I've played with before to supplement the shortfall among other stays. None are really all that compelling though.
One idea is to checkin (but not necessarily stay for the whole reservation - use web checkout remotely) at a cheap property. Plenty in the US sub $100, and within Asia a few in China, and even the Hyatt Kathmandu, category 1 P+C is 2,500+$50 USD. So depending on how much you value your GP points, and positioning flights etc, this may be an option. It's also an easy way to requalify for Diamond easily and without really needing to physically stay the 50 nights. Whenever I'm in the U.S. I will always look to do this where it makes sense. And in many cases you don't need to even be there to ckeckin - if you know someone local, just add a second guest to the reservation and have them checkin wih ID/CC on your behalf.

The Tokyo trip would only cost me 3.5 days of leave, so it really is food for thought. That said, it'd be a solo trip and I'm not a big fan of them, but JL F...mmm...
The timing sucks. I've taken a lot of leave in the last 2 months and that long weekend is this month. If only the JL 777 with F was on the route until the end of April...then I'd totally be sold!Perfect! Have you booked it?
