I love it too. With the yearly limit up to 90 days now, it covers more than I need for number of days travelling overseas. Would be nice if it worked in Dubai for my stopovers there though!

In China now ads had virtually ZERO 3G since I arrived on Sat - leave tomorrow - have called Vodafone 3 times to try to resolve - USELESS.

Local network issues?
My brother in law has just been in Shangai and Beijing two weeks and $5 roaming worked perfectly (back yesterday).

NFI - I also have identical 5S with China Unicom SIM card and it works perfectly - 5S with Vodafone USELESS all week

I found China hit and miss. Whilst I was there for 2 days I was on EDGE the whole time. In the car on the way back to PVG my iPhone decided to reboot by itself. Upon rebooting, I was connected to a different network (not sure which) and had flawless 3G access.

Can't believe you manage to tolerate voda at all tbh. So poor we terminated a contract with them 3 years ago, gave them another try and the same thing.

No connectivity in SIN at all, apparently the roaming network was down. Poor reception at home, useless.

OK solved the prob - was in Vodafone office last weekend and told a rep what happened - he imm knew the problem - he arranged VF techs on back end to tweak a couple of things and guarantees it will be work fine in future. Apparently there were some issues on some accounts created within a certain time frame and others have had same issue - but since resolved.

But anyway - China last visit only real hiccup I have had with Red Roam - ALL other countries works perfectly. Cruiserette ported her number across from Optus a week back - if you port number across or get new number for new Red account you can add to your existing account for $25/mth for first 6mths. Unlimited calls / unlimited texts / 3GB data / 300mins international calls / mth for $25. So inside a week Cruiserette admits VF much better than Optus previously - she continually had msgs turn up days post being sent but has not had same prob since switching.

I think the $5/day Inter Roam has been an absolute winner for VF - I am amazed number of people I speak to who have transferred across with this feature being main reason.

Vodafone Red Roam worked a charm in China last week now that we got back room bugs ironed out - such a huge plus to be able to travel o/s to multiple foreign countries and be in 100% continuous contact - just sensational - $5/day - God I consider that cheap.

One tip for China is that occasionally if the China Unicom signal is weak phone may pick up China Mobile instead - unless you can read Chinese characters bit hard to determine - so if you lose 3G just go into Settings and check which carrier you have picked up.

Used this for the first time on my recent travels and it was great. I guess the only negative is that if you only want to send say 2 text messages in a day it will still cost you the $5.

Well yes it would - but IMHO for $5 a day it is such a bargain you just never even contemplate restricting call / SMS / MMS numbers - use it with gay abandon.

I thought this would be brilliant.

To test Vodafone I purchased a prepaid starter kit.

Long story short, Vodafone sent me an empty envelope, then instead of sending me a replacement, insisted they had packed a starter kit and I needed to take it up with Australia Post (who are apparently now in the business of opening mail and stealing valueless items).
So I currently have a charge back being processed by Woolworths Money and I'll stick with Telstra for now. I haven't got any trips coming up for a while but may look at Optus who now have $10 per day travel packs when the next one approaches.

If you are contemplating using the $10 daily roaming plan then go into an Optus outlet or call them and get it fully explained - make sure you fully understand how the charging system works.

It's not available on prepaid - as per International Roaming | Vodafone Australia it's only on these postpaid options Vodafone Support - Plans that work with $5 Roaming

No. Signing up to prepaid was to test the network as a first step. I would have joined a plan if things worked out. Vodafone customer service had other ideas.

Note that you can sign up for a month-to-month Vodafone Red plan (post-paid) with the $5/day roaming, without a multi-month contract. That's what I did when testing Vodafone's network before committing to switching.
