Re: Vodafone plans to let customers “Roam Like Home” in UK, USA & NZ for $5 per day

i was keeping an eye out for that one but it requires you to add an extra account on to an existing one . some people have suggested opening a post paid mobile broadband account for a month so this plan can be added on to that and just cancelling the mobile broadband but another user has spoken to CS who has said if the primary account is closed then the special discount goes as well.

this one is worth looking out for. same $35 plan but with double data i.e. 6GB on the same $35 plan, indefinite as well but in-store only

Re: VF [Vodafone] plans to let customers “Roam Like Home” in UK, USA & NZ for $5

Vodafone have just recently announced that they are extending the $5 roaming country list to include South Africa, India, Malaysia & Fiji, which, as someone who frequents India and Malaysia is great news! I saw the news via Aus BT, but they didn't have a start date, so I've written to Vodafone to find out. Will report back here when I get it.

Cheers,
Matt.

Is it $5/day regardless of #of countries? Or does it work out as /day/country ?

You shouldn't be charged more than $5 per day, even if you move through multiple countries and use their networks in one day... I often use my phone in Singapore, Malaysia & India on the same date, and only get charged the once.

Edit: Just realised it wouldn't have mattered before what I did, as Malaysia and India weren't on the plan! That said, I have done other multiples on the same day, like Singapore/Thailand, Singapore/Indonesia and a few in Europe, with no issues.

Cheers,
Matt.

YES it is $5/day once Red Roam is activated by phone usage in a country / multiple countries covered under this plan - when I arrive SIN and make calls the plan immediately activates - same day arrival into PEK/PVG and use phone it still only costs the 1 x $5 daily usage.

Details on Red Roam overseas usage here

You only pay the $5 on the days you use data or make a call...

You only pay the $5 each day that phone used for either calls / data or both whilst in those countries covered under the plans.

So, Vodafone never got back to me with the launch date for these additional countries, but on checking their website just now, it would appear the changes have been made. Happy $5 roaming, y'all!

Re: Vodafone plans to let customers “Roam Like Home” in UK, USA & NZ for $5 per day

Interesting experiences with Vodafone Red Roam in Shanghai last 3 visits. I have been on Red Roam plans since inception of the product - ie $5/day when overseas and phone acts just like you are in OZ - so maybe 6 or 7 years now.

Had a few probs initially in China but some minor back room tech tweaking to my account saw it work perfectly ever since - never missed a beat - as soon as I land in PEK / PVG it auto picks up China Unicom who was initial partner carrier and more recently China Mobile has been added. It has always worked perfectly on 3G and recently I have seen it display 4G also.

On a visit in March I arrived into PEK for 3 days - worked perfectly - NKG for a day - worked perfectly - then PVG for 2 days where it immediately malfunctioned whereas in previous 6 or 7yrs worked perfectly. It would pick up 3G lose it and show No Signal - pick up 3G again - then lose it - occasionally this trip I also saw 4G displayed - if I turned phone off then on would pick up 3G again and work OK but then No Signal. I put up with and returned home and thought nothing more of it.

Returned to PEK 2 weeks later and then to PVG and exactly same thing again - this time I am in PVG 4nts and it got better of me. I called Vodafone techs and they advised no 4G in China so turn off 4G and should work ok. It was better but certainly not right and was just acceptable but still doing same thing - continually losing service - returned home again. The bit about China having 4G is totally wrong - all 3 Chinese carriers Unicom, Telecom and Mobile have offered 4G for over 12mths - it works perfectly for Chinese customers.

Back to PVG 2 weeks later and it starts again - this time I called Vodafone tech support - explained prob and said I am not getting off phone until you fix this. They offered to call me back with solution. Short time later they called back and explained following:

1. Vodafone agreement in China is with both Unicom and Mobile - service will switch between 2 depending on signal - but 3G agreement only with Unicom - they have no agreement with Mobile to receive their 3G signal - and YES even though both Unicom and Mobile offer 4G Vodofone do not have agreement to buy and supply 4G to Australian Vodafone customers.

2. Because agreement to offer Oz customers 3G only with Unicom - to ensure best service must turn off 4G on arrival in China - turn off Automatic Service Providor and select Unicom instead - and service will be fine. I did this and YES it worked perfectly for next 3 days.

But really confusing part is that I have never experienced this ever before - not in PVG or NKG or PEK - not with any iPhone before - not with this 6+ or previous 5S or 5 or 4 - now only in PVG and only in last 3mths - UFB. So if anybody else experiences ongoing No Service issues just try above and should solve your probs.
