Annual fee [waived when 'threatening' to cancel?]

Hi anyone had any luck getting full refund of the annual fee when threatening to cancel the card.
 
Family member too many cards...Citi and 28 degrees fine.
Will ring to cancel card.
This months payments will not get QFF if cancelled now?
 
It's free for 12 months, is there a need to cancel before getting all the points through? My plan is to cancel say at 9 - 10 months out.

Family member says as earlier in the thread....."Don't need card dumping it" after being offered only 50% off....rang back later after talking to me to cancel...used the high spend...other free card lines.... and told they would have account reviewed would caonct him with answer later in the day.....he had to ring back as fed up to cancel card and informed card reviewed and free for another 12 months....decided to keep it.....go figure!
 
They don't want my business. I have had this card for a few years and never paid a fee, waived every year. Rang 2 weeks ago to request waived fee again and got no joy. They gave me 1000 points as a carrot. The points dropped, final payment made all 1 day before renewal date, sweet. Rang today and cancelled. Again, no offer to try and keep me. The card simply is not worth $139 IMHO.

1000pts and 1.9% balance transfer offer rejected by me so goodbye to Woolworths card.
I'm considering one of the Bankwest Mastercards (to use when Amex isn't accepted) and I'd be interested in any comments on:

Bankwest More Mastercard

This card is linked to Bankwest rewards and not Qantas so may not be suitable!

Yes, I'm interested in this too, preferably no or low fee and QF points for when AMEX card not accepted.

Anyone tried to cancel say 3 months in advance to maybe clear the 1000 points before cancelling permanently?

Went to cancel and got the $0 annual fee, 1.9% balance transfer for 9 months and 2000 points. I took the 2000 points and will call up in 6 months or so again.

I don't think i have any intention to use this card after getting the suncorp clear options platinum, but maybe it'll be useful for tax purposes if I can't do that on the other one. The only reason to spend on this card is to get the QFF points, but I don't fly enough right now to justify that.

I called up to cancel back in September ( when it was still under HSBC) and they offered to waive the fee as I have been a long term good customer. The fee was not due until NOV, so they advised what would happen is they would credit me the $89 and then in NOV a $89 fee would be charged ( so it would work out $0 in the end)... however when I checked my account I had been charged $139 ( additional $50)..... That's where the fun started ...

I called the OS call centre...... and ended up speaking to 4 people, they could clearly see in the notes from the call in September of what was advised. 2 of the supervisors then used the line " you have been given what you were advised " ..... OK ..... I am well travelled and experienced many different cultures and languages .... BUT in Australian English ... if someone is advised $89 here and $89 there it means exactly that( ok unless there is a *#! attached to it)... not $89 here and $139 there! ..... All I was after at the time was $50 difference.... however they could not help me , and advised they needed to speak to Australia for approval .... They tried to speak to AU, but they could not get thru . At this stage they said they would call me back , however as I was departing OS , I wanted a answer that day. I offered to wait on the line for 6 hours ( as I was at my desk) however they advised that was not possible, however promised me a call back same day ( I called in the morning)....... I am back ..... still no call / email / letter / $50 refund ........ I will call today and hit them up for the $139 full refund .... and may be some FF points for the way the whole " simple" solution has now blown out to a shocking customer service failure ...

I found that the only sensible person I spoke to at Macq on that card was to speak to what they call a "solutions specialist". Everyone else was rubbish.

Thanks for the tips ... spoke to a solutions specialist... and they agreed to refund the full $139 due to all the issues I have had and the many customer service failures ....

For those who have had success with an annual fee waiver, what process have they put you through? I've been asked to call back once the fee is charged and quote some ref numbers etc to have the refund 'finalised'.

I got waiver and balance transfer and I genuinely was looking to cancel, don't use the card. Go figure on that one, its definitely not related to spend!

Just check what you get charged and refunded..... the old fee was $89 .... but the new fee is $139
 
I just had a call from WOW Money who confirmed drop to .5 of a point per $1 when >$2500 per month. I asked nicely for a fee waiver of the $139 that was due to be paid in May and that has been confirmed.
