Why would you buy through AA website when you select Australia as your location.

On a simple flight LAX - LAS return the website increases the fare price by 100% compared to selecting AA Canada

Are there any reasons why we can't book flights through AA Canada or US?

Of course you can, I do this all the time.

Just click on the Aussie Flag at the top right, select "United States", "English" (unless you can read Español), click [] "Remember this selection" and off you go!

I expected a couple of $100 difference, but not double.... who is behind the rip off AA?

It's not a rip-off!

It's different prices for different markets - same reason iTunes has different pricing based on POS, or an xONEx costs more from Oz than it does from South Africa.

Serfty, while I respect your comments, I have to disagree.

I am sure you agree it is wrong, we should pay like for like, with the exception of currency and taxes.

Try booking a BNE - LAX flight on FJ website. I am sure you will decide that different prices for different markets is a good idea

What are we comparing this with QF BNE to LAX?

I think you are missing the point, its common practice, LAN is another good example, and lets not forget our Brazillian spree. Different locations have different rules and differing seat availability, use it to your advantage.;)

It's OK to "feel" being ripped off but you don't actually need to be ripped off.

Just take advice from Serfty, he's always correct on these things :)

I am taking my ball and going home, may be I am trying to live in a perfect world. :)

I will still argue that product A (only comparing with identical product) if sold through a US site or AU site should be similar price with the exception of currency differences and local taxes.

Couldn't agree more.... he is the man... and i don't believe i would be ripped off, just frustrated at what i consider milking the cow pricing.

General joe public would be none the wiser to these pricing differences and pay extra ....

For a long time I've booked via USA web sites when booking USA / MEX flights. You get a better price and more options.

I recently booked AC LGA - YYZ - MEX and via using my VPN to look like I was in the USA and a private mode browser was ablet o get my flight much cheaper than when I was coming in from Australia.

Maybe with the dollar heading towards its more peso levels and a slowing domestic economy we might not look like the cash cows we've been since the GFC.

It suxs, but we know the Australia tax is real and there's plenty of ways to avoid it.

I would never book through the AA Australian website. I always use the US site. Also, my personal preference is to speak directly with AA in Dallas, if necessary, and avoid the "Australian" call centre.

I guess you would be happy to pay $100k for a Toyota corolla compared to $20k in aus.....considering that's the price in some countries ;)

On a related note, when trying to use the multi-city feature on the AA website (with USA selected), it seems to give me a generic international flight selection page with changes quoted in £. Is that right?

The Oz site is not always dearer and occasionally cheaper so it is worth having a quick look there.
Also the Oz (Fiji) call centre has improved a lot and I have used them on occasions the repair damage caused by the US mob.

If you are a oneworld Emerald though, you end up on the AA Explat desk, who i've only ever had amazing experiences with!

I had months of back and forth with AA over missing miles. My last call was after I had just qualified as EXP. Fixed in 2 days!
