Perhaps we need to organise a focus group with both QF and VA so we can tell them what they need to know ;)...

Is it a training issue that they haven't been given the relevant information, or an understanding issue (background, education)? The responsibility should rest with the employer first, if they are then unable to use the training properly, then it's a people issue. HR to the rescue :eek:

It certainly is a training issue. I would assume this person (s) would have received appropriate training. Part of this training should be to check that the information has been assimilated. If not then further training is required.

If they are still not up to scratch, then they are either not suitable or the training module is flawed.

The thing Qantas have in their favour is that the current processes etc have been in place for a while (notwithstanding they still seem to have issues around some areas of the program, such as cancellations of ASA's etc). This allows for a feedback loop where any shortcomings or unexpected things can be addressed. One would hope that Velocity have processes to identify shortcomings and address them as they come up.

In DJs case, all the new changes, surrounded by secrecy right up until launch day, would create training issues I can't even begin to imagine. We here on AFF have made it our business to understand the implications of those changes.......simply because it's largely in our best interest to do so and we (collectively) have been trialling the implementation of those changes. The staff by and large have done a great job, but obviously still some issues out there and I'm so glad we have some DJ and Velocity reps monitoring this site for the feedback.

I think it would be a great idea to have a real issues thread (moderated fairly heavily) to discuss the real issues (over the LMPP being slightly too cold or the lounge floor looking a bit dirty) which could be a real asset to all of us as FFers as well as QF,DJ,JQ and maybe even TT!
 
I am ashamed to say that in a weak moment I applied for the Velocity status match - well, not so ashamed; it might actually be beneficial and I might even be able to retain it if I manage my programs properly! :oops:

I really really like the earn rate when purchasing a more $$ fare

EG - MEL-CBR in J

Virgin $459
4000 points (as a current Gold Member)

Qantas $500ish
1250 points (as a current Gold Member)

Massive difference !!!!

It is important to remember that the earn rate is only half the equation though and you must also consider the burn rate.

That post is ~12 months old and I believe for lovestotravel (and a few others ;) ) when choosing (and sticking to) an airline there is a lot more to consider than simple earn and burn rates.
 
Certainly there's a lot more to consider - but not entirely due to good earn/burn rates (although they are better than QF's), my domestic travel these days is almost completely on VA.

In my experience earn rates are much better on QF. How much does one earn for a $39 airfare SYD-OOL on VA compared to a $48 airfare SYD-OOL on QF? Or more imporantly for you how much does one earn for a ~$110 airfare MEL-OOL on VA compared to a ~$129 airfare MEL-OOL on QF? And yes I know there are Platinums that spend more than $100 on SYD-BNE/MEL airfares regularly who may end up with a few extra Velocity points but I am no longer a Platinum.

As for burn rates I find Virgin awards appalling.

But we are all different and have our own preferences. I can easily value QFF points at 2.5c each but I cannot value Velocity more than 0.5c each. And no I am not interested in valuing/paying ~$1250 for a premium economy seat SYD-AKL. To me that seat is worth no more than the current QF special of $199.

How often do you get $48 fares SYD-OOL?

FWIW, my last QF domestic booking was $88 MEL-OOL!

Current VA special is $69 whilst QF special is $89. Earning is still better on QF.

I am sure there are some routes where VA earns more than QF but generally I find earning better on QF unless you purchase flexi airfares regularly.

And also if you don't have any status then you are not going to earn much on VA compared to QF.

Status Credits and Points earned will pool but not sectors flown.

So if you and your spouse fly SYD>SIN>SYD, that's 2 sectors per person flown. You will only be credited with the actual sectors you have flown (ie, 2 sectors) and wont be credited for your spouses sectors.
 
Just read guy selling 45K Velocity points for $550......comments please!

Edit: If interested....How about a Finders fee if the deal goes thru?
