To continue providing exceptional service to our members, we occasionally make changes to the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards® points program. We are pleased to announce that based on member feedback, we will be enhancing reward redemption options with new locations and expanded choices.

As a truly global program, we constantly strive to maintain industry-leading reward levels and availability. This means it is important we bring our points structure in line with global initiatives. From December 3, 2014, we will implement our first reward redemption point increase since 2008. The increase will allow us to continue to provide the quality and quantity of reward options our members have come to value and appreciate.

For the latest redemption levels, please visit hertz.com.au

We thank you for your participation in Hertz Gold Plus Rewards and look forward to serving you at a Hertz location soon

Just read it as well. Not happy with the "immediate change" policy enhancing away our benefits and enhancing Hertz's bottom line. Sounds like they poached somebody in Marketing from Hilton Honors or Qantas.

Pretty annoyed. Had saved enough for a one week hire ... that is now 1000 points more.

Easy fix. Cancelled 5 bookings and rebooked and selected velocity points. I shouldn't have ever switch to hertz points.

Also, what i didn't realise until i made a booking, the points only count for the daily rate - the location surcharge, rego fees etc are all as usual. Those fees make up the bulk of the cost much like a Qantas International reward redemption. No value to begin with, even less now.

Presidents Circle has not resulted in an upgrade in over 1 year as I always book a full size. Is there any point continuing with Hertz? (serious question)

Really disappointing change. I wish I had seen it coming.

I have 1,000 Hertz points which were enough for 2 weekend days and now only enough for 1 weekend day?

I am guessing if you credit to Hertz you cannot credit to airline program as well?

No notice is never good but I must admit I quite like the new 3 day weekend rental!

Don't even know how many points I have, but I'm going to burn them and switch to QF or VA points. Currently sweep to AA to keep that account alive.

Presidents Circle has also been underwhelming for me.

Pays to read obscure threads!

My Point Total: 3777

Are these difficult to redeem?

You could do what I do and book the level below full size - guaranteed upgrade so you might save a few bucks a day?

I decided earlier this year to switch back to Europcar. Hertz vehicles (I found) were older and in poorer condition than Eurocar, Hertz rarely gave me any kind of noticeable upgrade (Europcar rarely doesn't give an upgrade) and although I'm not overly happy with losing the Europcar discount, I have already made use of their free weekend deal which is for a 3 day weekend rental and despite the T&Cs saying I wouldn't, I got an upgrade as well. For me, Europcar wins, Hertz was cough and it seems it's got worse.

Now if they were to bring back a certain VS promo, I'd be back in a blink of the eye!

+1
That's exactly what I usually do.
I must say this year Hertz became very stingy with upgrades. I used to get prestige upgrade once every 3-4 rentals before but in 2014 I barely got any. They seem to enforce the one class upgrade rule very strictly now.
Regarding the latest "enhasement", it was bound to happen at some point as the redemption chart has not been changed for many years.

Hertz introduced the scheme in Australia two years ago, March 2012

They had rewards before 2012 but on a different system IIRC. I thought the info in the email refers to both old & new schemes.

You used to get a voucher for every 20 rentals if you were part of the 5 star scheme, 5 star rewards were introduced in 2012. To claim no changes since 2008 is a furphy in the local sense

Even before the enhancements the value was poor, as you still had to pay the +++ which increasingly is a major part of the rental.

I remember getting the charts in the mail and sending fax to Hertz when making redemptions but I'm not sure if the value back then was better or worse.

Contemplating booking an AMS Schiphol Hertz vehicle using my newly joined Hertz Gold Plus Rewards via Amex signup. Doing a dummy book, the Gold Plus membership has provided a 10% discount to price.
According to the Amex/Hertz blurb you are guaranteed an upgrade to next class of vehicle provided a Standard vehicle is booked. With this in mind I contemplated a manual Volvo (class) S60 as it is considerably cheaper than the auto version. Being a very busy airport concession there will be plenty of better vehicles available. In fact I would think a manual S60 might be hard to locate. Should I expect a significantly better vehicle on upgrade?

Also am I better off crediting points toward say Singapore Krisflyer? The booking is for 24 days.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
