NOTE: Hertz introduced Hertz Gold Plus Rewards for Australia & New Zealand on March 28th, 2012. Rentals for those members completed prior to that date do not qualify for Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Points.

Fast and Easy to Earn
Now you can get more out of your rentals. Wherever you rent, you can earn Hertz Gold Plus Rewards[SUP]TM[/SUP] Points. Earn one Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Point for each qualifying U.S. dollar or its equivalent you spend on qualifying Hertz rentals.

Redemption Rates
500 or 600 points for a free rental day,
Car Classes A, B, H, C, S, D; Standard Fleet - Economy, Compact (Man & Auto) Intermediate, Standard & Fullsize

So spend $500 at Hertz, get 500 Hertz Gold Plus Rewards points, and a free Day...

Alternatively,
$500 at Hertz = 3000 Velocity Points (for a Platinum VFF)

Definitely not as good as Velocity Points...

They have had rewards for a few years, they have just enhanced it.

I think that 'enhanced" is a bit short,, which other car rental company would give you a free day after $500 worth of rental? which of course wouldn't go anywhere near covering their costs,,

Most car rental companies have regular 3rd or 4th day free offers all the time where the total is way less than $500, and does not require a Saturday night keep. I have a couple of free day vouchers and have not used them, owing to availability, note the T&C's
Standard Rewards such as 500 Points for a weekend day, may not be available at all cities or at all times.

By comparison, if you credit Hertz dailys to VS, $500 would earn 11000 VS miles at an average rental of $50 which is 1/4 of a J fare HKG SYD.

To answer your question with regard what other car company gives you a free day, I dont need to spend $500 to get a free weekend with Europcar.

Correct Markis ,, but how many send you a free day voucher after your 7 day rental? the other is just a discount for time rental

Again there are plenty of deals, Avis is 7th day free, while 14 days will net you three free days, getting a voucher to use later is not as good as getting the free day or three instantly applied, and takes the availability issue out of the equation. Factor in the new one way charges for city to airport or airport to city drop offs, the extra deposit they now take on rentals and a FF scheme that still thinks most of its members want a credit to Qantas and you have a very distant 4th choice when it comes to a rental car company IMHO. And thats from someone who has been a Presidents Circle member for 5 years with an annual car spend of 20K.

But are we talking about Avis or Hertz? Hertz are not part of the qf ff.
any fee for other location drop off is based on the fact that you have booked from corp (airport) and are dropping off at franchise (or vice versa)
Your other option with hertz is to use the corp code that doesn't charge fees including rego recovery..:)

We are talking about Hertz, you are a new member so take some time to read the various experiences that have been reported by members, such as the Hertz computer still trying to put a QFF number in the booking despite them not being a partner of QFF for two years, the terrible slow time to credit FF programs, the previously mentioned drop off fees (who gives a toss why when its only Hertz that does it and it does not go away when booked on a corp code for one of the biggest IT companies in the world) and the fact a Camry is now the Full Size car of the Hertz fleet.

If you think a free day on a weekend is great value then go for it, if you can book it, for me I value that at $25 worth of value (I am paying $93 for four days rental in Brisbane on a regular basis), I would rather have 1/4 of a J fare with VS or even the Velocity points as Futaris mentioned, both present a higher return than $25.

Firstly, I don't fly with virgin, so I couldn't give a toss about how long one waits for points to be credited. If people govern their lives and experiences by how many award points they receive, then row your own boat. Thrifty, Budget, Avis franchises will charge a drop off fee, as they have to pay 2 people to go and retrieve their car. If you don't pay it in brisbane for a weekend rental there is a fair chance that both outlets are either a franchisee or corporate.
That's my two bobs worth..

No worries, as for the others requiring a fee, thats clearly not the case, an example being Darwin where a rental form the airport dropped downtown will attract a $50 drop off fee (note both are corporate locations), thats rich when the rental is often $18 a day. NONE of the other car companies do this in the same scenario.

While each horse has its course, Hertz for me has gone from No 1 three years ago to not worth it for me this year, due to their new policies, poor systems and woeful crediting of FF points being DJ or VS, it a pity because I found they had great staff and service in many locations. Ironically because of the way things worked, being pushed from Hertz has resulted in significant savings for me with other companies, I had not noticed how expensive they had become, for example:

I'd say you need to be a certain tier - it sounds like Privilege Executive.

Privilege has 3 levels - Club (10% discount), Executive (20%) & Elite (30%).

My undertsanding was that Velocity Platinum provides a status match to Elite, but maybe it's just Executive.

EDIT: According to AusBT, it's Executive for Gold and Elite for plat.

Well I had chosen Hertz for my Velocity Platinum upgraded to PC....

But now I am looking at renting with Europcar more.....

I wonder if you can just use the code of 51118872......

So am I. Hertz gives me the sh$ts.

I had tolls included, it didn't work, I got fined by hertz, the tolling coy and the
police!!

I am mightily pissed off with hertz.

I am taking this up officially now and will involve solicitors as a matter of principle if that becomes necessary.

I was charged $99 for three toll charges that were charged to my own toll account. My toll company gave me a ref number that I had to provide to Hertz, and six weeks later the $99 charge has been repaid.

Took up the option of Hertz Gold five star, when reach dj gold status (doing it the hard way) and five rentals and not one upgrade yet! Havent seen any benefit being a five star member as opposed to being a normal hertz gold member.
