May have missed it, but OneWorld have announced some alliance wide updated for Sapphire and Emeralds. Press Release: oneworld adds more benefits for its most frequent flyers - oneworld news - oneworld, or picke your favourite blog: Oneworld Enhances Sapphire & Emerald Benefits | LoyaltyLobby, Oneworld Enhances Sapphire & Emerald Baggage Benefits ~ Australian TravelPoints, Oneworld Adds Baggage Benefits For Sapphire & Emerald Members - One Mile at a Time
oneworld® today adds two more benefits for the most loyal customers of its member airlines – priority baggage delivery for frequent flyers with oneworld Emerald and Sapphire tier status and an additional checked baggage allowance for Sapphire cardholders.

It looks like some good improvements, but I'm not terribly a fan of BA opting out of things like usual! If they're not interested in providing the benefits perhaps they shouldn't be in the alliance!

Priority baggage on all OW carriers (excluding BA) will be good for some :)

In any case for those traveling in Oz priority luggage is hit and miss ...

No mention of priority luggage here for example, so maybe they just don't offer it at all.

In which case at least they're honest, unlike QF who claim to offer it and so often fail to deliver on the promise.

BA has always tagged my bags with the orange priority tags (even in Y). Looks like they have now formally opted out though...

(Yawn). Big deal. Now announce that Sapphire and Emerald bags will be delivered to the carousel as a priority (ie before others), and I'll be impressed.

Priority baggage rarely is 'delivered' by Qantas, in my regular experience.

Extra baggage as a One World benefit is great news, it's absence has been the subject of many a thread over the years. CX can be very cough in that regard in the past.

I thought priority bags are existed for a long time for sg and wp, at least that's my experience with CX, JL and MH.

I want to see OW allows transfers to *A.
I managed to get my luggage transferred from *A to OW a few times and it can really save a lot of hassle when flying mixed carriers.

So now it is in policy rather than a customary gesture. So you may not see a big difference.

Except for the ad hoc agreements, I think you have a better chance running for PM, really...

Well, *A seem to be able to do it with no dramas. Just one of the reasons why they are the "better" alliance.

If the OW & *A flights are in the same booking eg QF to SQ it's permitted as long as there is a baggage interline agreement.

It depends on the airlines own policy also eg QF to UA on separate tickets no, however UA will often interline bags to QF on separate tickets.

Yes it is an individual airline policy that dictates checked bag through checking not an alliance matter. In the star alliance camp, unless the policy has changed recently, NZ don't allow through checking of bags to anyone on separate itineraries. Period. Reports indicate not even NZ-NZ.

Yip, separate ticket at NZ check-in then no checking through.

As has arguments over whether bags should be tagged or not ;)

Now why haven't they added Arrivals Lounge access to the benefits for OWE? That would be a step in the right direction and make OW a cut above the rest!

Exactly. These are existing/ad hoc agreements.

Not *A mandate.
