Hi!

I just heard an unusually loud rumble past my house earlier this evening.

Jumped on flightradar24 and it turned out to be a Qantas a380 VH-OQK on final from Sydney to Melbourne labeled flight number QF6010.

So... my question is...Is this a regular occurrence? Also, I assume there were no passengers onboard?

Thank you! :)

P.s. this is my third post, so I cant add links to flightradar24 QF6010. :(

The QF6xx_ numbers are for positioning flights. OQK arrived in SYD this morning from LHR/DXB as QF2. I would assume it's planned to operate either QF9 tonight or QF93 tomorrow.

QF8 departing DFW Wed 19th diverted to LAX 6 hours into the flight due to a medical issue. Then the crew ran out of hours so they arrived in SYD on Saturday morning, 24 hours late. This would have put some aircraft out of position and it appears many A380 flights have been running with small delays. Maybe this SYD-MEL flight is to get the aircraft back where it's meant to be.
Yep - looks like it. QF11 was operated by a 747 yesterday and today as the A380 was unavailable.

There aren't many 380 flights between Melbourne and Sydney, but they happen every couple of months. Normally the crew is just the two pilots.

6 thousand numbers are used for ferry flights, and sometimes for charters.

I would not call the noise of a 388 'loud' in comparison to other RPT jet aeroplanes - it is certainly different however.

Quite a few times this year I have been changing trains at South Yarra and heard that definitive whiney rumble; looking up I would espy the QF94 sliding south of the CBD to line up (I presume) for a 34 landing at MEL.
