Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

In other words, Qantas is saying the charge of $60 is at our request, and for our benefit.

There is only one slight problem in their haste to put spin on the whole thing... a charge for exit is absolutely not necessary in order to make the seats available! They could have simply unblocked the exit rows and they would have been available to everyone.

Here Here this stinks of penny pinching and is not good for High Status passengers. Qantas seems hell bent on doing everything to give customers an excuse NOT to fly them....

Out of interest how much does VA charge for Exit row seats East to West.

maybe they are going to use the extra revenue to compensate for the lower number of J seats in the new J cabin on the A330.

Good question - for some random dates on VA A332 transcon services SYD-PER return I saw an Extra Legroom exit row fees of $50 for one way (but $95 return). Is that typical for VA transcon exit row fees?

Wow. I only just caught up with this one. I'm very disappointed. This is going to make my weekly flight between BNE and PER much less pleasant. Bad form, Qantas. Very bad form.

I echo this sentiment. I was so common in 23A (only occasionally 23j) syd/per this year that I knew pretty much every CSM by name. Bring on the free J wine/whiskeys. Clearly no longer.

Me, too. Except that I never receive any free J wine or whiskeys. How'd you manage that, fifo!?

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

I'm a chatty bloke, usually as im excited to be coming home from a stint at work (and i've had a few in the lounge before hand, I dont drink at work). So I got to know a few CSMs and lots of them know I fly business a lot of the time (they tease a little if they see i'm in economy). I usually put on a little bit of a sob story as well hhaha. 'at work for 3 weeks straight etc'. mostly its just being friendly. Sometimes I outright ask if they ask the old 'anything I can do' i'm like yep, glass of that red from business would be awesome. id say 75% no worries give it up.
there is only one CSM I dont like on that route - older lady who was rude as towards me whilst on the pa, dont even say hello to her anymore.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

I just (with much pain and suffering) got an extra legroom on ****Star PER-MEL for $25! I'll probably catch a disease, but Qantas aren't operating their 5pm PER-MEL flight on 25th Jan when I finish my tour and I'm not waiting for the redeye.

Corporate booking with JetStar are a farkin pain in the cough to try and value add too - hey JetStar, I'm trying to give you money.

It's a pity the Virgin A330 product is so cough in economy - the QF 767s looked better that the Virgin A330 I flew on.

QF now charging for exit row seats?

OK, so I've just gone to do my seat selection for my usual cross-country run for January and selected a couple of exit rows in the A330, BNE-PER return. Get taken to a screen that says - you owe us $120, how would you like to pay?

Not at all thanks was my disgusted reply to my computer. Funny thing is - I got 2 exit row seats on a 737 on 2 other legs of this trip - no charge.

When did this happen? Was it advised? Clearly another enhancement. Or have I just struck another computer glitch? Or should I be ringing the premium desk and asking for the charge to be waived seeing I'm WP.

I really am getting sick of this QF - are you REALLY trying to get me to fly VA, because I'm rapidly running out of benefits that differentiate you from your direct competitor.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

^ Now you mention is, one of my bookings is Y Flex. Perhaps no change on 71/80A/80K?

Can anyone else test this?

I just did a MEL-LAX booking in fare class H and B and I was able to select 71D without any charge, so maybe Flexi fare are excluded?

If they give me their bill for an exit row seat can I give them my bill for being prepared to assist in an emergency ?

Being willing to assist in an emergency is a pre-condition of you selecting an exit row seat. So, no.

QF have always allowed people in exit rows who clearly would be little more than an impediment in case of emergency, but they were status pax (in the past) or paid their money (nowadays) so they get to sit there.

In contrast, I've seen people moved out of exit rows on american carriers when the cabin crew judged them unfit to assist.

If you are on a Qantas flight (or any airline for that matter) and feel a passenger(s) seated at exit rows don't meet requirements - particularly for over-wing hatch exits where passengers are responsible - you should bring it to the attention of the crew.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

I've seen JQ move an incredibly fat family out of the exit row of an A320. Without being rude, seriously, nobody would have got past them and I'd doubt they could move too quickly at all.

Ahhh the good old nickel and diming ? Good one Qantas, just like hotels which like to charge for a beach chair.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

...just like hotels which like to charge for a beach chair.

the hotels had feedback that many of their customers wanted to secure beach chairs ahead of time... and there is no other way of doing that except by charging.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

So row 51 now also attracts the $180 extra leg room fee...what's next? row 32 upstairs?

and somehow CX gives me exit row seats for free as a QFF:confused:

Red Roo (QF) - You've well and truly lost the plot! I can understand 80A/80K/71D being earmarked as extra legroom, but 51? That'll do me!

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

A question to Red Roo and QF.

Rows 80A and k and 71D were generally only available to high tier members such as WP and P1 as a reward and extra comfort when travelling in Y. Given that you are now charging for these does this mean that you no longer are concerned about providing a little extra comfort for what you say are valued customers?

I understand that QF is not a charity but seriously you can not continue to screw over your most loyal passengers at every turn with out some sort of negative impact.

Where before I would go out of my way to fly purely QF aircraft when in Y this has now changed I will look more to get onto EK operated Flights where I get free seat selection no matter what and can select Extra Leg room seats at the airport with NO extra Cost.

Please Qantas see sense and provide recognition and extra leg room seats such as those above free of charge to High Tier Frequent Flyers.

Remember Qantas THE REASON YOU FLY IS BECAUSE OF US !!!!!!!!!!!

Given that this is a Bassinet seat 51 HJK what happens if I purchase the seat and then A parent needs it for a baby do I get a refund. If any of the seats are allocated to Parent and baby? Do I get a refund due to the extra noise that can be associated with a crying baby?

Are you now penalising and charging Parents extra to access a Bassinet seat? If so than that is the lowest of lows in my opinion. It is hard enough as it is for parents travelling with infants.
