The bag in the picture is not mine, it belonged to the lady in the seat in front of me.

Lucky it was a short hop from CBR-BNE on QF yesterday.... I have had this a few times now and it is starting to get on my nerves. If it was a East coast-PER or international flight I would not have been able to hold my tongue.

Your bags should take up *your* leg room under the seat in front of you.

As a matter of interest, how much of the under seat storage belongs to the person behind? On a recent flight, feet from behind were bumping into my feet.

Had similar experience in USA a while back. As usual, I boarded early so my carry-one could go into a locker, which it did. I was in row 2.

At the very end of boarding two a**holes in Row 1 board (bulkhead seat), with much carry on. No seat in front, no room in overhead lockers. FA looks, but as usual bins are chokkers. I watched all this thinking: serves you right for boarding last with max carry-on. But was surprised for what happened next. FA asked me if they could put the guy in front's carry on under his seat - ie in my legroom. I declined. FA asked again, asking me to co-operate. I explained that I had boarded early to ensure my stuff was in the overhead locker and didn;t want to be inconvenienced by some-one who didn't plan similarly.

FA asked again. I declined for a third time, looking them right in the eye. They went elsewhere. A**hole in front reclined the entire journey.

100% of the real estate defined by the metal hoop down there. Any feet from behind that extend beyond the hoop are fair game.

I would have pushed it back further under the seat with my foot. And if it came back again, looped the handle around my foot and pushed it under my seat, without impinging on the person behind me. I mean, it's not a big bag. Laughs ensue when pax in front tries to find bag and I play dumb.

The announcements about luggage stowage always say: "In the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you, except for bulkhead rows where it all must go in the bin.", do they not?

I would asked an FA to remove it.

On a Trans-Tasman flight I was in about 6C (QF 738). As soon as the sign went out 5C reclined and continued to read his paper. When finished reading he reached down and placed the paper under his seat directly onto the tops of my feet! I just tipped it into the aisle where it stayed a long time.
He then read a book and again reached under and placed it onto my feet...I was ready this time and forcefully pushed back. He gave a little start and quickly retracted the book.
Best story I read re this sort of stuff was on FT...a guy boarded to find his foot space occupied by a wrapped parcel. Upon further inquiry he found that about 8 seats around him also had wrapped parcels under them, none belonging to the person whose foot space it was. Turned out it was an early boarder (unsure how he managed to board so laden with packages but it was in the US) who didn't want to fill up his own foot space.

The whole area to the metal bar belongs to those behind. People who stick their feet back behind that bar, standing on my feet in the process, may be kicked.

Depending on mood I would either push that bag back with my feet, or pick it up and hand to the person (If feeling nice). But the move it elsewhere sounds like a nice bit of mischief.

Never had this happen to me but I've seen a woman sit down in an aisle seat, take her shoes off and reach around and put them and her bag under her seat while stretching her feet out into 'her' free foot space. I was amazed that the guy sat behind her, did/said nothing.

He should have taken the shoes and bag and handed them back to her with instructions of where to stick them and and the handbag pictured should have had the same.

I have had my leg room taken up by the person in front deciding they want to store their carry on in my space. I just leaned forward and politely asked them to remove their luggage. Fortunately a QF FA was passing by at the time (I was sitting in an aisle seat) and she backed me up and explained to the pax that he was to put his carry on either at his feet on in the overhead locker.

I did that once on a VA MEL-SYD flight.

Boarded late (after lounge boarding calls were made) and found a rather large bag under the seat in front of me. What ensued was a LOTFAP style panic of that bag being "unattended baggage". Fortunately it was in J of which the FAs were much more attentive!

I have never had an issue resting my feet on the steel bar under my seat. If your feet are then tough luck.

As for the lady's handbag I would have taken it out and asked her if it was hers.

First up, let me be clear that I agree with the sentiment of being peeved at other´s impingement on personal space. I am abnormally tall with inconvenient size feet, so I truly value my space! And I particularly liked the suggestion that chucking the bag out the window would be a very satisfying option.

But, I believe the correct conduct is to start with a polite interaction with the offending pax, by handing them their bag and calmly advising them it had moved into your foot zone.

You have to give them the benefit of the doubt (initially!) A lot of people dont travel much, and even on this fórum we ask each other where exactly our personal plane real estate ends - so if we are not 100% sure, think how a little old lady may make an unintentional mistake.

I love people's sense of what is their space. Last year flying out of LAS on a smaller plane the guy next to me had his hand luggage ON my seat (there was no room for that bag under any seat) When i asked him to move it he suggested i find another seat. When i convinced him of where i would insert the luggage if he didnt move his bag, he promptly moved it.
