From today, Monday 20 October, Qantas will begin construction on its new Domestic Business Lounge at Perth Airport to coincide with the airline’s move to a dedicated Qantas precinct in 2015.

Part of a significant investment by Qantas in Perth Airport’s transformation, the new lounge in Qantas’ precinct will provide convenient access to Terminals 3 and 4 - where the Qantas Group will soon have exclusive use for Domestic and Regional services.

Qantas Domestic Head of Customer Strategy Philip Capps said the new precinct will deliver a better travel and airport experience for Qantas customers as a result of improved gate access, faster security screening, quicker check in and now more lounge facilities.

“The new lounge will ensure our business customers receive the same high level of service on the ground as they receive in the sky,” said Mr Capps.

“At 1,365 square metres, the lounge will have capacity for over 350 customers and will be equipped to give them the space, state of the art facilities, quality service and luxuries that Qantas Business lounges are renowned for.

“From a dedicated work zone with meeting room and conference facilities to a dedicated dining area offering a ‘dish of the day’ and all day barista service, the business lounge will give our most frequent flyers the ability to work or unwind in luxury.

“Combined with the latest in design innovation and service delivery the new lounge will also offer a number of exciting new food and beverage initiatives raising the bar in both product and service, across not only our network but the entire domestic market.”

Other features of the lounge include new furniture, wireless internet, newspapers, magazines, Foxtel and a full service bar and buffet offering a selection of food and beverages.

The addition of a Qantas Business Lounge will complete Qantas’ suite of domestic lounges at Perth Airport with a Chairman’s lounge and Qantas Club already in operation.

Eligible guests for the new Perth Business Lounge include business class customers, Platinum and Platinum One Frequent Flyers.

Qantas currently operates four Business Lounges (Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane and Melbourne) which are a unique product in the domestic Australian market and provide competitive differentiation.

I wonder if there are any artist's impressions/drawing/designs floating around on the net?

IMO it would be a good opportunity for QF to test a design which is a little different to the other J Lounges in the network. Something like the brand new DRW one?!

Excellent news and not before time. Any indication as to when it is expected to open?

Our friend RedRoo was floating around on this thread earlier and may be able to give an indication of the timeline.

Just slightly OT - wasn't BNE slated for lounge refurbishments also this FY when the results were announced a couple of months ago? Haven't heard anything since then.

So this is in the existing terminal locations right?

Aren't they meant to eventually move to the new central/international terminal area though? Or is that much further in the future?

I was thinking of that the other day too... oh well :(

Great news :)

Don't know that it'll do much to resolve the issues though given that the majority of complaints about the existing lounge were about the FIFO workers in there...Many of whom will be WP.

I think thats way way into the future.

Virgin moves over the the new pier between T1/T2,
and Qantas takes full control of T3/T4.

Presume if construction is starting now it means Qantas is not taking over the space that currently contains the VA lounge.

Big disadvantage for those transferring between Qantas Domestic and International... oh wait.

If they are lucky the FIFOs won't complain about the other lounge users ;)

Looks like those damned FIFO people have already been there with there dirty boots LOL :)

In all seriousness it looks pretty good :)

wow self serve wine.... perhaps I can even get my wife a drink at the same time as I order mine after 8.30pm.......hang on perhaps there will be riots nightly!!!
but in all seriousness I am so glad that this is happening and we the members will be treated as adults and not children.

Good to see the J lounges expanding!

Very good, no this is great news!!! Love it. Alot of FIFO are SG from what i have noticed of late. Personally know a few WP's that will drop to SG because of the "simpler & fairer" nonsense.

Great news & cant wait for PER to finally have a J lounge :)

Conversely, with the cancellation of the direct eastern states to Pilbara flights forcing routing via PER, I know plenty who will graduate to platinum.
