Isn't Beetroot in hamburgers a uniquely Australian addition?

Yes I assume so. Can't recall having a hamburger in NZ with it on but it may well be used there too.

The egg, bacon and pineapple that add up to a 'lot' burger are probably uniquely Australian.


We have good meat pies here now but when I went to South Africa some 24 years ago I couldn't believe how much better their pies were. They actually had chunks of meat in them, unlike our mince, gristle and gravy specials (Big Ben, Four and Twenty etc).

AP I like the thrust of your last post - here is something I can never fathom - why do QF and VA not offer King Island cheeses as the standard cheese offerings in J and F? They are world class by any standard - readily available and would be a great promotion for Australian produce. Would love to hear from either QF or VA reps a valid reason for not choosing to offer.

Just on a side note - flying VA J LAX-MEL in 13hrs time - do they still use the little Opera house shaped salt and pepper shakers in J? I love that little touch!

Well they pinched it from us (or vice versa). Will have to sample a few when we're there in January. I have nagging feeling I did have a burger with beetroot there a while ago.

We've got to visit the famous (or is it overrated?) Fergburgers in Queenstown.

Slightly off topic but Marmite ( the UK's equivalent of Vegemite) is now not only a food, but also an adjective. Alex Salmon, the Scottish Nationalist was described as a Marmite Politician, you either love him or loathe him.
