Have recently returned from a very short trip to Europe and had the Tumi TSA lock 'removed' from the hold luggage. Has anyone had a similar experience? There was nothing missing from the suitcase, it did not appear to have been opened, just the lock gone. Replacing it should be no problem, although the Tumi online shop in Australia does not stock it.

I've had locks disappear from time to time and I assume they just get wedged in something and snap off.

Have lost 2 in this way - the steel U on the first batch I purchased were rather "thin" compared to a set I bought a few years back; the first went almost completely, only the U was left in the zip attachment (nice tight fit), the second the entire TSA lock went missing. I currently have a 3rd which is bent rather significantly, hasn't snapped off yet, but only a matter of time.

I picked up some AirAsia 2pks that are actually smaller in size overall, (the U is shorter too) but also much thicker - they seem to be surviving really well.

I'm thinking the combination of the longer U, thinner steel and getting jammed in who knows what, has contributed to 2 being write-offs and the 3rd on its way out. Next batch I get, will definitely be the "stubby" version. :)
