Hi

I am reading the wiki on the Plat challenge with AA at this link: http://www.flyerguide.com/Challenge_(AA)

It mentions that BA flights are now included in part of the challenge, but I am not sure if that means all flights?

I am doing the below this month and wondering if I will pass the challenge if I allocate my AA account to the flights even though its a BA ticket?

AUH - LHR Economy - British Airways 72
3,403 mi

LHR - FCO - British Airways 548
Economy - 894 mi

LIS - CLT - British Airways 2361
Economy - 3,866 mi

JFK - LHR British Airways 112
Economy - 3,463 mi

LHR - AUH British Airways 73
Economy - 3,403 mi

We have our own thread here that more clearly answers your question:

To fully answer, you need to advise what fare bucket each segment is booked into.

This may assist - American Airlines oneworld partner - BA ("Elite Qualifying Points per Mile Earned" is crucial)

ok thanks looks like I am in the bottom section as I am in deep discount fare (Q, S and O) , so I will get 50% for the miles.

I originally thought you only had to fly on AA ticketed fare to qualify for the Challenge, but reading it I understand I can fly other airlines like BA ticket I am doing to try and qualify.

However cause of the table below and even though I am doing 15,615 miles I am only going to get 50% so not going to make it for this trip. Maybe I will hold off till next year when I do my OW RTW.

World Traveller & Euro Traveller
(Deep Discount Economy Class)
G, Q, S, N, O100% .50

FromToDistance
AUHLHR3431
LHRFCO898
LISCLT3869
CLTJFK541
JFKLHR3445
LHRAUH3431
Total 15,615

Seeing as I will only be 3k miles short of reaching the 10k challenge, does anyone have any suggestions on flights I can take from NYC between 11 Aug - 17 Aug that gets me 3k miles?

Need to be back in JFK by the 19th

I can give you plenty of flight suggestions but I assume you are looking for something cheap and easy. Not likely to happen either way, you really need 6k if you want low fares and August in the US is not really a good month for specials, that is still significant transcontinental flying and is doesn't really help as NYC is a hub.

I have seen NYC to Portland return for over 6k in discount economy for 290 recently, but with just about all the discount fares, nothing in August, they all start in September.

In fact I can't see any AA deep discount fares transcontinental routing from NYC through ORD, DFW or LAX to a smaller third city to give you just over the 6k miles that you need with your available dates.

However, if money is no problem, guess you can fight flights for about 600 to 800 as above in the times that you want to leave.

15,615 miles at 50% = 7800 EQP -> you need 2200 more EQP.

A one-way JFK-SJU in I class is 1598 miles and can earn 2397 EQP. Cost is USD373.

Then you need to get back - can be done for USD171 in S class.

Is there a list of carriers that you can use for the challenge and do you still need a minimum amount of AA flights to complete, i've read plenty post and seem to have confused myself.

I have flights coming up with BA, Qatar and Qantas.
