Took my first international flight.
Booked after the changes announced to SC / Point earn and flown 1st July.

SYD-AKL. Economy in K Class. So an extra 5 SCs on what I'd normally pick up.
(Have H class on way home so will see how that runs up)

And here is the H class Y flight return home AKL-SYD

So normally I get 20 SCs and now got 40 SCs.
Ok I'm happy with that.

Plus more points

I agree the changes in Y categories helps the medium-high Y fares quite a bit....

It now however makes the PE earning quite poor given the relative price differences of R/W to B/H/Y

I also previously hadn't noted this gem
~ Qantas flight segments booked in Premium Economy T class will earn at the base rate of Flexible Economy.
Not that I have seen a T class fare before.

In my mind the PE fares should earn 50% more SCs than Economy Flex.

My thought would be that a 'higher' cabin (not fare bucket) will always earn more than the highest fare bucket of the cabin beneath it.

The notion of the next cabin class is always MORE of everything ... space, food, facilities, virtual return (points / SCs), on-ground privileges etc.

When buying a car ... If you buy the next variant up in the same model, you expect more (better) of all the associated fruit.

T class PE fares are the sale fares. Why they have been added to the "Flexible Economy" bucket is a question only Qantas can answer...especially seeing there is no difference between SC earn on T class or R (Premium Economy) class...

I agree that PE should earn more that Flexible Econony...but I guess it never used to under the old system either. At least under the new system, if you book into "W" you get more SCs....not sure the several thousands of dollars is worth that though...

My 2c - SC are a measure of customer loyalty, which is really about $ spend. So if discount PE fares average less than full flex Y, perhaps it makes sense that SC are less also.

My data point.

Someone I know well travelled return in PE on an ASA return to LHR which was booked before the 'simpler & fairer' changes were announced.

AUS-LHR = 120SC
LHR-AUS = 140SC

I'm not complaining but just demonstrating the the fact that the commitment to MASA's booked prior to their demise would earn at the original rates irrespective of the date of travel is not 100% correct.

Worth checking your SCs as sometimes they might not be calculated in your favour.

Adjustments have been mentioned in relation to flights booked before the change announcement and flown post 1 July. I expect that means all flights will credit as per new earn automatically and then an adjustment process will happen at some stage. This matches what you've reported.

I have no issue with T earning the same as Y, as a discount PE probably is at about this level.

But despite R/W being in a separate column (Premium Economy) the SC earn on all flights is identical to Flec Economy.

A little confusing. I assume that the return leg included a QFd flight? Trying to understand the 120/140 difference.

Trying to understand the 120/140 difference.

I guess the outward leg was flown before July 1 with no change of flight numbers in DXB and got 120.

The inward leg was flown afterwards, and was initially credited with 140, which is the new earning for LHR-SYD or LHR-MEL. Theoretically that will be adjusted back to 120 SCs within a month, reflecting the timing of the booking.

Sorry I was vague.

Before 01/07/14 - MEL-DXB-LHR = 120SC
After 01/07/14 - LHR-DXB-MEL = 140SC

A thread worth keeping an eye on..... I have upcoming flights booked prior to the announcement.

This thread shouldn't be needed to post results as since it's now "simpler" we would all know the answer without doubt! :p

Not everyone will be aware that an adjustment is on the way and this will cause more problems.

What happens in the situation that my friend is working towards keeping their current status and has booked their flights to just requalify based on their current SC balance as displayed under their QF profile. For example, they requalify for SG for 31/07/14 and then QF run their 'adjustment' program removing 20SCs and my friend now falls short of requalifying and can't do anything about it. Will QF award him SG anyway?

I would argue that QF should be crediting the SCs that are correct straight away or risk upsetting more customers.

Mmm it is only just starting to dawn on me the QF FF point reduction on the new earning.
Have had a few flights but just checked my statement.

Red-e O class fare domestic SYD / BNE.

Thinking forward, unless I maintain WP then the points earn is significantly reduced.
SCs may be the same, but my gosh that points haul has reduced.
May be the focus is to have you earn your points from 3rd party spending or the previous earn was too generous.

EDIT: Thank you ... I stand corrected with the min point guarantee of 800 points.
I kind of forgot that part. The statement no longer indicates the min point guarantee earning start *. I'm getting too old to remember all this stuff.

On SYD-BNE, the minimum points guarantee is 800 pts for discount economy, so it shouldn't matter whether you maintain WP or not. Everyone's points earning is reduced by 20% for NOQ fares on that route.
