Re: Heads up about program changes

Well he's important enough to me that I'll suffer a middle seat on a domestic, and he does the same for me. Long haul is a different matter, nothing wrong with being either side of the aisle.

Oh dear... if I wasn't important enough to my partner that we couldn't go a few hours without sitting next to each other without our relationship being in danger, I'd probably reconsider my relationship! YMMV! :)

Re: Heads up about program changes

Sounds like you haven't yet learnt yes means no, and no means yes!! You better wise up quick mate, or you'll be traveling on your own real soon again :)
Yep, thats what I thought too!

Of course we are capable of sitting apart! But we have fun together so why not sit together.

You're starting to use logic. That can't be good....

Its easier to pass my meal to my hubby if we are sitting next to each other. Across the aisle also works but we have been separated by a few rows once and that made it awkward. "Excuse me, can you please pass this chicken & rice to the guy looking at you like he hasn't had an airline meal in a week".

Re: Heads up about program changes

Well, sometimes I want dessert but not the whole thing...

And if you don't get your dessert he gets his just desserts. ;)

This whole thread reminds me why I have a cat. She stays in a nice hotel when I travel and we're both happy.

Re: Heads up about program changes

She is important to me as well and she will not want me to suffer. Some women don't like the opposite aisle idea and want to sit next to their man with him in middle. Totally illogical thinking.

On our only flight together I offered to allocate her the window seat with middle seat vacant or if she wanted the opposite aisle. She definitely wanted middle seat. I think I am OK.

If she's happy with the middle seat - that's a bonus for you indeed!! (Is it a Thai thing?? My partner is also happy to take the middle seat on LH or SH flights, even when I've asked if she wants to take the opposite aisle seat, or window seat.)

If its a serious question then no... not ok. :)

I've done it once. BUT it wasn't my idea. Mrs GPH had me booked BNE-AKL in J, then at the last minute she decided she needed to come with me. But no more J seats avaialble.
As I ran into a client at the airport, who just happened to be travelling on the same flight, and just happened to be in the seat beside me, we took the opportunbity to have a client meeting (He is very difficult to pin down) so I didnt feel too bad. was able to send some sparkling wine back to Mrs GPH as compensation

Re: Heads up about program changes

Why not the other way around ??

Because it makes no sense for a ~52kg female to sit in business while a 120kg+ male suffers in economy. Plus she doesn't drink and she won't earn status either.

I asked her again last night. She doesn't mind if we don't sit together for a few hours.

And I don't subscribe to the SWMBO theory. Far from it.

Re: Heads up about program changes

My 2c.. Not sure if it's covered but if she's important enough for you to consider to marry. At a minimum it's Not nice nor gentleman like for her to sit know a lower cabin. It should be the other way around, you in Y and she in J. Jokes aside, I would never consider flying in J/F whilst wife sits in a lower cabin. If it's an op up then fair enough I would still offer her my seat.

If it's un-gentlemanlike for her to sit in a lower cabin, isn't it just as un-ladylike for him to sit in a lower cabin?

Re: Heads up about program changes

I've accepted an OpUp HKG-SYD and left the family behind the curtain. The argument/lecture that I had to endure from SWMBO just prior to getting paged in the lounge, cleared the head - I didn't hesitate to accept!

I've also knocked one back LAX-SYD because I wanted to sit with my lovely wife. I think SWMBO has learnt the lesson about delivering lectures anywhere near an airport ;)

Hell no, I often threaten to put my husband back there but he just as often threatens me with divorce over it.

Ive also told him that if an upgrade op ever came up, we will take it and argue about who gets to sit in the comfy chair later on.

But you are a gentleman!

The plan is to take her to HKG DO, SIN DO and KUL/SIN lounge crawl.

My flights are convoluted as I will be coming from Australia and she will be coming from Chiang Mai. The budget is tight. I cannot afford business class for both. I don't want to fly ecomomy. She wouldn't want me to spend that much on her flights or hotels.

Now you got me feeling guilty. Best to dump the planned trips.

John, disappointed to see someone is making you feel guilty over your planned trip. The benefit your friend will gain from visiting those locations will be more than compensated for flying in Y. I suspect that she would feel even more uncomfortable if she was flying J alone while you were squashing yourself in a Y seat. But most importantly, you have to make your own call on these matters - have a good trip.

Do not cancel! For all the razzing, I would take a slightly uncomfortable trip over cancelling the opportunity to travel and considering shes a tiny lady, I doubt she will be as uncomfortable as some of us more Rubensque ladies.
