The totally off-topic thread

Only to check up on my son's antics. I don't post on my facebook and I only have my son and niece as friends. My other son won't "friend" me
I have deleted a few friends because I was tired of their mindless postings.

Ha ha - you are just like Mrs Vetrade, Pushka. Since they were teenagers both our sons conditioned us not to ask questions about what they had been doing etc. They explained their one syllable answers by saying "If I tell you anything more you'll just ask more questions". They are older now and realise we asked questions because we were interested, not that we were prying, so they are more forthcoming than they were previously.
Mrs V still likes to check out the pics /stories of their friends on Facebook though.........just like you! Personally I've never used it and am not inclined to. Like twitter it seems to be a hotbed of puerile and time wasting gibberish - then again some would say something called the "Totally off-topic thread" could amount to much the same thing. :p ;)

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I joined FB - only because about eight years ago when my daughter was backpacking round the world I found it very hard to get an email reply from her - guess Mum was way down the list in importance. However she posted nearly every day on FB along with pics so it was a great way for me to see what she was doing & to keep in touch; now she's in her 30s she's much less inclined to use it. I can't stand the drivel on it, and it's been tweaked somehow so it's just inundated with ads (I assume that in some dastardly clever techie way they have linked what I search for) which drives me crazy!

Having a fabulous time at the FT Oz Fest again... Really glad I took the effort to squeeze it into my schedule.

Huge kudos to ozbeachbabe for organising a fantastic do.

Also have an idea to research for AFF8 when I get some spare time. (Thanks chchkiwi).

Facebook is about the only place my real full name appears online. I do know of people who have not put their real name on there.

Dual accounts is the go, apparently. One that they let their parents "friend" them on, and see... another that they keep to just same age friends, under a pseudonym or school nickname.

I used a fake name on Facebook and had my account suspended pending having to submit proof of identity.
I know so many people on FB that have fake names that if they were all suspended half of FB would probably vanish.

I had a very good reason to join facebook. The HGI I was staying at in the Napa valley gave you a bottle of wine if you liked them on FB.Naturally I did.
Look at it once every 2-3 months.

I do exactly the same. I also block Apps from accessing my Facebook.

I'm sure you have much better things to do than play Candy Crush, as do I.

As soon as a new game hits, I block that if I remember & then block the person from sending me game requests.

Last night I went to the Battle of Sydney in the ice hockey.

Before the game, I met up with a guy who was having a go in the Bear suit for the first time.

I asked him if I could try the head on as there's some doubt if I can fit into the suit. He was already suited up at this time. So I tried it on.

Before the game, I took him around the crowd for a walk because it was his first time in the suit. He did a great job.

Add Bear minder & motivator to my list of talents...

And a nice view of the crowd. According to the official stats, we boosted the crowd from 250 at each Melbourne game last week to 850 last night with both Sydney teams playing . Lots of behind the scenes promo & movtiation worked to boost the atmosphere to the point people couldn't hear the PA announcer.

I took 2 photos from my seat & stitched them together with an app.

(about loud public conversations)
... If I want to hear their stupid conversation I'll go and join in...

I wonder what would happen if you did sit down next to (or just behind, so you are on camera too) one of these public skype-ers and joined in the conversation.

I imagine the response would be "do you mind this is a private conversation" to which you could easily respond "well why are you having it in such a public manner" or similar. I've got no doubt that will cause them to hang up (and possibly punch you in outrage, but could quite possibly be worth it).

I would do it, without doubt. I'm without shame when it comes to these things. No problem embarrassing someone who is ruining my relaxation time in a lounge!

In fact, I look forward to it... Sit within millimetres of them, well inside the comfort zone, and explain that if he wishes to have private conversations at loud volumes in public places then we must all be friends? Hey mate, how's it goin?

Did a full clean out of my laptop for the first time since purchase. Disassembled the chassis, removed the cooling fan, got out the air compressor to give everything a blow out, scraped off the old thermal paste and replaced it.

Everything seems OK so far, so it looks like nothing is damaged. The unit doesn't sound particularly different to before, except there was quite a bit of dust present when the fan was removed initially.

Also, I'm starting to wonder whether my unit was some sort of refurb or factory second or something... because I discovered one chassis screw is missing, one of the chassis latches was already weakened and there's quite a bit of duct tape on the inside. How the hell has it worked for more than 3 years now is a real mystery......

I wonder why there was such a Fantales shortage in Perth ... had to try 7 different supermarkets before I found one that had 'em!
