Ladies, are airports, airtravel and lounges geared toward the expectations of women?

Re: Ladies, are airports, airtravel and lounges geared toward the expectations of wom

I guess the pertinent question with regard to this thread is: 'What are women's expectations whilst travelling/ lounging?'.
Travel could be seen as a great leveller between the genders and I've been scratching my head thinking about this one. Obviously being a male there are more than likely things I would n't think of. Also, having grown up in a house with women (Mum and 2 sisters) I'm well versed on the age-old loo-seat-up-versus-down issue ;)
I would hazard a guess that most of the time when families are travelling, mum looks after the kids. MOST of the time- not ALL the time... So, maybe more play areas for kids in airports or family areas?
Perhaps better lighting around mirrors in ladies loos (You know, the mirrors with lights around the outside) for make-up application?
In London there was a cab company that only employed female drivers (don't know if they're still around), and only took female fares. Maybe a dedicated car service catering for (solo) female travellers?
Anyway, some things to think about....

I travelled solo around Turkey and Japan with a few days in Dubai last last year; I almost always go solo. When I emerged from the terribly inefficient mess that was Dubai immigration at 2300 I was immediately put into a pink cab for women driven by women. She was the maddest swearing cab driver I have ever experienced.

As a friend of mine was robbed, raped and murdered by a taxi driver with a screwdriver leaving Mumbai airport after he drove her to the back of the airport and picked up another man. I appreciate the women only cabs, train carriages and take advantage of them when available and if convenient, but I don't fret if not. But, I must say I never get into any cab whatsoever in some parts of the world and do sufficient research to make sure I know the alternatives.

A couple of years ago I arrived in BKK around midnight and asked the nice big bronzed Aussie man two seats over who I had a couple of chats to if he'd mind sharing a cab with me, and we did. When, half way into the city the taxi driver said something and the Aussie guy said we are pulling off into the dark to get petrol I was very nervous indeed. I would have had a melt down if I'd been on my own at that point.

Re lids - those who grew up some forms of septic tanks along with the 'honey pots' of the 50's and 60's would understand why lids should be kept down. It's a habit one grew up with.

.... Wish this thread would evolve into one where the female AFF fraternity could feel a sense of total freedom and express many of their inner thoughts - but alas that is not how women roll - again the males won't understand this. :)

Be careful what you wish for, CE! :) X 10

You've obviously never observed a group of women discussing their husbands.........no inhibitions there IME - they are enthusiastic about sharing info that no male I know would ever consider telling his mates about his wife!!

I would normally agree witih JohnK about the lid issue - up unless there are exceptional circumstances - but I think toilets on planes are an exception.

So my MO on trips to the loo are :-

1. Close the door and lock it.
2. If the floor is a complete mess then use a paper napkin or two to clean it up
3. Use a tissue or toilet paper to wipe down the seat
4. Pull pants down AND SIT DOWN (unexpected turbulence can make a hell of a mess!)
5. When finished close lid and flush (for noise as well as reducing impact of splashes when washing hands)
6. Wash hands and try to clean up any stray water.
7. If in doubt, take a quick peek under the lid in case it needs a second flush.
8. Exit and smile at the next customer with confidence that they won't give you a dirty look on their way back to their seat

Too cough???

I always close the lid in the aircraft because I'm scared of that sucker :)

Re: Ladies, are airports, airtravel and lounges geared toward the expectations of wom

Nice work, Moody. :)
One more suggestion:
Place fresh paper seat cover on seat before closing lid.
How good is it to find that on entry?:)

But how do you get iron clad guarantee aforementioned paper seat cover is indeed 'fresh' and not slightly 'used'? I've seen some seriously delicate little 'tushes' in my travels which might not render a paper seat cover totally 'solo use only' - not that I have deliberately looked mind you. :D

Things are a little different today.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks. I go to the toilet at nights and mum keeps telling me to turn the light on but that is the last thing on my mind at that time. If the seat is down it could get very wet.

If you want to sit down then bring the seat down with you. Lift the seat up on the way up. Very easy. Just saying....

My sister has her hubby well trained.
If he's not wearing his specs/ contact lenses he HAS to sit down to p

And single I will remain. I do not take orders. Especially from women. Nor do I give them out by the way.

Natural position of a toilet seat is up. This is where the least harm can come to the toilet seat. It makes sense if you are going to sit down to take the seat down with you. I am not going to bend down to lift the seat up and then return seat back down again when I am finished. It makes no sense.

And the same goes for other things. If the lawn needs mowing go and do it, don't nag me about it. If the garbage needs to be taken out you know where the garbage bins are located. I am all for equality and I can cook. I am not going to give up a Saturday morning game of golf to go to a kitchen tea or your friends BBQ. You know how to get there without me. Oh and don't keep a count of how many beers I have had and remind me all the time.

Life is simple. I don't need complexity in my life.
