Hello all, thanks for looking.

I'm trying to book these flights:

San Francisco - New Orleans
New Orleans - Ohio
Ohio - New York
New York - LA

However, they all seem SUPER expensive (About $500 each). Are these really rare/strange flights or something?

I was looking on DELTA as that gave me VIRGIN status credit and points.

Is there a better place to compare the price for these flights?

Thank you!

Have you tried an aggregator like Wego or Kayak or Skyscanner to see what else is in the market?

try google flights to find the cheapest options. for the minimal miles these flights will attract you may be better taking cheapest available. try southwest as well.

there are some reports people have managed to snag AA first class transcon for around the $500 mark. that's with full flat beds. potentially better value than a few status credits.

Thank you for the reply.

Is AA American Airlines, and TRANSCON NYC - LAX?

Also, I thought Virgin Status points where the same for these flights as they are within Australia?

Thank you!

yes :) AA is American Airlines, and they have full flat 'suites' for flights between New York and LA on their a321s

status points may be the same as Australia. but the question I guess is the trade off between first class vs status points (although the $500 fare for first class might not be available when you're looking at)

Thank you very much!

How long does it take for Status Points with other airlines to appear? I'm always a bit suss that it will never happen without chasing.

The US has a lot of good budget airlines that do not appear in the major travel websites. Try southwest airlines and google "US budget airlines" as there are many and it depends on where you wish to fly.
If time is not an issue you can get really cheap airfares on website like Priceline, but you don't know the exact time or connections until after you book. It's a lottery that can pay off if you have lots of time, but can be really annoying if you get long connections. And no ff points :(

What class are you looking to book?

For NYC to LA, church the cost of, say, PHL/WAS to the west coast with a connection or two - use a train to get from NYC South ...

How long is a piece of string? Sometimes they're quick and sometimes not.

Always take a photo of your BP so you can email it to your program to claim miles/SCs as required. And keep a soft copy of the itinerary in case you need to claim ORC.

I suggest you try Virgin America first (best American product out there IMHO) and then Delta as these will give you VA pts and SCs. Then compare those prices on Kayak with the low cost carriers (Southwest).

delta is considered a premium carrier - i quite like them but it depends on route and time. Have had many great flights, and some shockers (ATL-LAS on 757 was full, late night, terrible ) and MSP-ATL in CRJ was just as bad.

I'm struggling with Ohio - New York.

It's costing 500+ for a one way trip that's under 2 hours...

Maybe I'll drive.

when are you going? flights CLE-NYC are as low as $90 one way.

I would not consider delta a premium carrier for domestic USA flights in economy... in fact I don't think any USA carrier would be considered 'premium' in coach... it's all buy on board. delta probably is the best of the three though.

Thanks for your help, maybe I'm doing something very wrong?

CLE-NYC for two passengers Sunday 15th June 2014

Also having trouble finding a good price for

MSY - CLE on Friday the 13th June 2014.

(Thanks very much for your help.)

CLE-NYC $150 one way on 15th June... this is using google flights as mentioned in post #2.

$150 is on AA/US, if you want DL then it's $500+

No idea why I can't find this flight?

What airline? And is it a huge amount of hours?

Thanks heaps for your help.

AH - I typed in JFK.

Oops. Are the other airports easy enough to get into the city from?

(Also, amazing it's such an expensive flight to go non stop. 500+ for a direct 1 hour 45 minute flight.)

you ou can reduce the price to about $250 by booking a return and throw away the return. that gets you on the non-stops.
