Thought that I would share my recent and first experience with a QF 737-800 BSI.

I was fortunate enough to fly J SYD-ADL. I had seen the pics of the new J seats in burgandy and I wasn't impressed by the way that they looked. However, when I arrived at 1A I was very impressed. The seats were very very comfortable (much more so than the current cloth seats) and they seemed wider than the older J product.

The inflight entertainment system was very good and much better than the shared system.

The new overhead lockers were good and the new shape probably doesn't make a huge difference in J but the extra head space was noticable. The over head lighting system was also very pleasant. As far as I can tell, the bathroom is unchanged.

Overall, the new product was a vast improvement to the old product and I was most impressed.

I very much look forward to flying QF BSI aircraft again.

Can you give a comparison to VA J (738 BSI)? Any footrests?

Yes, I quite like the BSI's. Having flown in both Y and J in them, they are a vast improvement over the standard 738's...

Yes, QF have foot rests - the seats are basically those used for PE in Long Haul 744/388.

Like those PEs seat, unless you are under 160cm tall, the footrests are largely useless.

I really don't like the footrests on the QF BSI flights they are neither long enough or padded enough and I'm not especially tall 176cm. Everything else in the cabin is spot on though, for short flights <4hours.

I know that QF are strapped at the moment but it would be lovely to have all their 737's with the new BSI. Especially now that the -400's are now gone.

The other day I had the pleasure of travelling a BSI aircraft in Y (ADL-SYD).

I found the new bins made a huge difference in making the Y cabin more spacious. I also liked the new overhead controls for lights, air etc. The flight entertainment made the trip seem faster.

As for the seats, back rest/support was good but I felt that the lower cushion was harder. I had a bit of a sore bum towards the end of the flight.

Overall, I would still take the BSI aircraft over a non-BSI one.

Agree, with overhead bins and other controls, had the pleasure of J again CNS-MEL on sunday, still dislike the footrests though i tried every way possible.

I'm very happy the 734s are finally gone forever, my only constant P1 benefit, row 4, was useless on that plane.
As a frequent Dom flyer I really hope QF will refit more 738s with the new BSI, it just feels more spacious.
Meanwhile, the BSIs should be used on longer routes (2 hours plus) where the great IFE can be fully enjoyed. It's much better to watch a movie rather then the same old boring programs on QF TV.

...
But they made rows 5 (P1) and 6 (SG) a relatively spacious benefit as well ...

I didn't think that existing aircraft could be fitted out with BSI? Don't they have to come from Boeing that way? I guess they could get someone to design a BSI style refit for the existing 738s.

They can, but it is not cost effective as it's likely cheaper to buy a new one with already built with BSI .

At least one of them has been. Flew on one last week which had the new interior however old seats. It was VXC I believe.

I remember all rows had restricted legroom on the 734, while row 4 on 738 is more similar to the first 3 rows in J.
That was my feeling anyway, I may be wrong.

The convertible rows 1-5 and row 6 had 36"-38" pitch.

When not in CBR mode (i.e. rows 1-3 J) rows 4-6 were relatively spacious; certainly nothing like row 4 on the 73H but an extra 6" is 6" extra ...

Oh ok, I only flew on the non CBR mode.
