Heads up about program changes

I don't think an algorithm has yet been discovered that would power the calculator Qantas needs for its new earnings.

Easy, just put a negative into the algorithm they use to calculate fuel surcharges.

You need to read clause 9.4.1(a) of the program terms and conditions. That says earning only happen for fare classes list in the earning table. Come 1July x,u and which ever will no longer be in the earning table. I say that means no earning for masa.
Perhaps you need to go and read the new earnings table in the Terms and Conditions. The relevant classes are listed with a ^ next to them. That ^ is the footnote that I referred to earlier. I say it means earning for masa (subject to having been booked in the appropriate time period)

And Red Roo did clarify the MASA situation in Post 847-
Yes. If you book a MASA next week for a post 1 July travel, you will still earn, but it will be at the new rate.
If you book a MASA today, you will earn at the existing rate.
You will not be able to book a U class MASA from the 1st of July onwards.

The earnings table here: Frequent Flyer - Fairer Flying ?

You'll note that PUXZ do not appear in any of the QFF Categories.

If you also view the New earning table here: Frequent Flyer - Program - New Qantas and Jetstar Earning Table You will note that PUXZ do not appear to be mentioned either.

PUXZ do appear in the old earnings table here: http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/terms#jump25

Should have just raised the number of squiggles required on QF.
And made that X number of fares that were paid for in $ not MASA's etc - now that would have been a simple change that everyone could understand and it would probably not upset anyone either as we could all see the need for it. The same if they had of reduced the partner SC & point earn just on routes that QF fly - we could have understood it and the reasoning behind it.

I have to pick up on the point some have made that these changes reward those Qantas flyers who are "loyal" at the expense of those who are leeching off cheaper oneworld fares to obtain status.

Let's take my Dad for example (Platinum for 15+ years). Around five years ago, my Dad would easily retain Platinum (and then some) on QF only due to it having a decent international network. He could get to Frankfurt before 8.50am in the morning. He could fly to Beijing on a Qantas aircraft. He could take an overnight flight to Hong Kong on Qantas and connect throughout Asia. Through the BA partnership he could fly Europe-Tokyo/Shanghai/Hong Kong/Bangkok/Singapore-Sydney. This used to allow him to kill multiple meetings in the one trip.

Over the years he had to change his flights over to airlines such as CX, because of QF network decisions. The QF/EK alternative to Frankfurt, as mentioned above, gets in at 8.50am - too late for Business. The QF flight numbered alternative to Beijing is a China Eastern codeshare operating via Nanjing (enough said really.......). There is only one flight per day to Hong Kong. However, in order to stay loyal to QF where possible, he leveraged on the oneworld partnership of airlines such as Cathay Pacific. And where Qantas was available as a viable alternative, like on domestic flights, to New Zealand, the USA, Manila etc. - he has stuck loyally to QF.

Now, because of QF own decisions network wise, he is left with an option that makes it unrewarding to stay with QF because he gets punished for flying partners that offered an alternative where QF could not. But this is a choice that is beyond any reasonable person's control, other than the incompetent decisions of Qantas management.

People flying oneworld partners are not leeches trying to get status cheaply and are not any less "loyal" to Qantas. I understand that QF cannot be all things to all people. I do not expect QF to fly everywhere. But in a world of airline partnerships, it is not unreasonable to expect to be rewarded for flying partner airlines that offer an alternative where your business cannot.

Go there. Scroll down till you find the new tables (almost at the end of the page). Reproduced here

But they do appear here with a ^ which COULD be read to mean that they still get points and SCs if booked by June 30. I entirely understand what you are saying. And it's why there is some confusion. MASAs may indeed be eligible to earn... wait for it.....nothing

Not sure where you came up with that. The clear intention (clumsiness notwithstanding) is that they will be in the earning table with a ^

^ only when booked as part of a Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award, for bookings created on or before 30 June 2014

QF are focusing on DOM commuters and narrow channel premium class QFi Flyers. Maybe the alliance structure is better suited for airlines that have their model focused on international destinations.

QF core game is domestic.

QF without international or OneWorld is a fairly poor value proposition, IMO.

Oh dear Red Roo...and we were told MASAs were definitely here to stay at the QF loyalty lunch last year :(

QF lied. What else is there to say. From the language used in Red Roos post QFFs are going to be done over on one form or another. Talking about making it more simple - what was more simple than 1000 point minimum and it going up from that?

Any suggestion that SC earns on Jetstar will now be automatic and not available at some crazy additional cost? The information I read said SC would be earned on Jetstar flights. That would at least be one benefit if that has changed.

It may be a benefit for you, but not for me as I've never flown Jetstar and have zero plans to.

So that's not a benefit.

They ought to invest in some narrow channeled aircraft on International sectors then

Maybe the alliance structure is better suited for airlines that have their model focused on international destinations.

So, you're saying QF should no longer be an international carrier? Granted their more than halfway there already, whats the point of being in OneWorld then?

QF core game is domestic.

QF's core game is managing the exchange of a quasi-currency. The airline thing is clearly a side-gig that only distracts them from their core game. Yes that is tongue in cheek...sort of.

QF without international or OneWorld is a fairly poor value proposition, IMO.

Depends where you fly and how you transact the fare payment. For someone that is transacting purely via the point treadmill the outcome is diabolical. Anyone that is flying on cash - it's no big drama.

I'm a huge advocate for QF remaining with OW.....however, I can see things changing! One needs to ask why VA hasn't joined an alliance?
