Finally! I will miss the gathering on 24 September so this may work out for me after all... I should be coming from a friend's housewarming in Rotherhithe at Docklands on my way back to the other side of town.

Thanks Mal for replying and starting the thread. I'm flexibly re location as I plan to get around via the Tube and buses etc. But if it's closer to where I am, even better. I'm going to get a local SIM while I'm over, so will be in touch when I arrive.

And thanks for the tip on the Museum... I'll check that out. I see there's a London Transport Museum also, so plan on checking that out.

We would be a maybe as our plans for Ireland and the rest of England are not finalised.

What a shame! I've spent the week sorting out my itinerary and I am fully booked for that date...and most of the other days on my trip. Why do I never run out of things to do in London? (rhetorical question, by the way)

Lol. In London I wake up, head to work, sometimes head out after work, head home. Becomes a treadmill really. But yes I do enjoy meeting/catching up with AFFers. Flashback is often available too.
If you do have a free night something should be able to be arranged. Let me know.

It's no different here. I plod along during the week as well. When I am travelling, I have untold amounts of enthusiasm to see and do everything. :)

No time left for the next visit, so I'll put out the call for when I am back at the end of the year. I've got at least 7 definite theatre events on this itinerary and several more I'll decide about when I get there. I'm a wee bit obsessed.

End of year sounds good. Express an interest and something should be able to be arranged.

TFL museum is OK but IMHO is overpriced for what it is. IIRC it is about £15 for entry. I went with flashback using a 2-for-1 deal and even then I thought it was good but not that special for the price. It is included in the days out specials so if you are over with a partner it becomes 2-for-1 with the right national rail plated tickets.

I've bought the London Pass, and so it's included in that for me. Seeing I've already paid for the Pass, I'll probably schedule my sight-seeing activities around the attractions included in that, plus a few more which aren't included. I thought perhaps to see the view from both the Shard and London Eye, but thought perhaps one during the day and one during the night. Would the Shard be the better one at night?

Haven't been up the shard but walk past it often and have seen photos from it. Gut feeling is that it would give a better view than London eye. However being higher it is a different type of view. That said, the restaurants at some other tall buildings will give a somewhat similar view.

For the shard... You do need to prebook, otherwise you get a nasty same day arrival fee. (£100 iirc). I think the regular timed fee is around £20.

The Heron Tower also has several restaurants with views and (surprisingly) good food. Something worth considering.
Restaurants

Have a place in mind. Just need to confirm they are open(and seeing I've been there before on the weekend shouldnt be an issue).

Will update thread later this week but as commented will be near St Paul's (5mins walk perhaps)

Anyone is welcome to attend, so feel free to add your name to the list!

Hi Mal,
I'll PM you my mobile number, though I'll be getting a local SIM when I arrive also, and will pass this onto you when I arrive.
Thanks for arranging this.
