Hi all

If you had 1 week in the US where you could take as many flights (from \ to anywhere in the US, starting \ ending at LAX) as possible in order to earn maximum number of SC's (thus making SG \ WP from PS) where would you go, what flights would you use and how much would it cost (estimate).

Think early October this year for timings.

You might find some are unwilling to disclose the best runs on a public forum for fear of them disappearing ;)

1.4K SC's can easily be earned in a week - you'd even have time to "smell the roses" here and there.

e.g. LAX-ORD-MIA-SKB rt earns 640 sc's and costs USD1220.

Not here, we're generally a friendly lot...just see serfty's post above :D

Certain routes get tightened (the popular ones where they recognise they are selling a lot of these fares?), but there are always others that probably turn up as being cheap...

SB?

Any suggestions out of LAS? I would be there for a week in Dec.

Wow, if I were able to get myself to LAX on a cheap ticket in Jan I could be Plat before I got home, but alas, I’m going to be happy with SG.

I guess there are enough that it’s not a problem, but I’ll bet the best kept secrets are secret for a reason :p

Don't see anyone discussing the special CX airfares anymore. Probably because they are not so special now. :(

There was a thread last week about them, or in relation to them, and how they couldn’t get a deal anymore as they all seemed a lot higher for some odd reason ;)

I wonder why? And the silly part about it all is the people that continue to discuss them have never ever used them or intended to use them. I am stuck in TPE end of this year and at the moment the airfares are over 25% more expensive than they were recently.

YUPs and KUPs are great if you can get to the USA but I bet you that the best ones are kept a secret for a reason.

And yes I know this is a frequent flyer forum and the right thing to do is to share advice but advice is useless if the deals no longer exist....

Hi,

How can you calculate the SC's you earn for a YUP/KUP trip? I tried the AA website but no luck there. Are the KUP fares automatic upgrade as well or is that a different fare?

Cheers,

Mille

Both auto-upgrades just booked out of different economy classes (K or Y). The Y is obviously more flexible if you have to change the flight.

For SCs, I use Mileage Monkey - plug the routing into the oneworld explorer validator and tick ignore errors. QF SCs shown down the bottom.

Why would CX sell dirt cheap seats if the flights are full most of the time? There is still some very good deals, the ex-TPE flights are cheaper when purchased on the weekend, and for flights very close to the departure date. you can still get some good deals, chill out!

Am I reading the Mileage Monkey correctly when I look at sfo-lax-las-dfw-rdu-mia-bgi? Does this mean that a AUD1575 (KUP fare booked in A and I class) ticket gives me 1280 SC's?

You'd be looking at 60+60+90+90+90+80 for a total of 470 SC's for that routing. Double for return.

You'd be better off looking at say SFO-LAX-LAS-DFW-ORD-JFK-MIA-BGI instead. This will net you 560 each way instead of the 470. Not sure of pricing though.

You will need to differentiate between the First class and Business class segments.

i.e If sfo-lax-las-dfw-rdu-mia is in First and mia-bgi is in business then do them separately and add the SC's tallies together.

so, in this case the "first" segments earn 390 SC's and the "biz" earns 80 giving a total of 470.

I knew it was to good to be true. Still 940SC's and a couple of places I have never been too are not too bad for 1600 dollars.

Would anybody know of similar possibilities to do trips like this? I am looking at Feb next year.

Do a search for YUP/KUP fares as well as throwing in some of the examples in this thread.

YUP/KUP fares are available all the time, but they do vary per route and time of year, but the best way is to look around on aa.com (and search here ;))

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
