was looking on the velocity site today and it looks like lounge access is back in LAX
- Platinum use the Emirates lounge at TBIT
- Gold & J class use the Etihad 1st & Business Lounge

How bizarre... Guess all those points and vouchers they gave away were getting expensive...

Emirates?

seems a bit weird.

I wonder how or if this will have any changes for the PAX using the Etihad lounge, from what platinum members were saying before that it was very crowded. Not sure if this new access guide will change anything or it will be worse? any gold flyers go through let us know how capacity is. I wont be transiting through there again until probably around August-Oct.

To confirm, if we Gold flyer's travel with AIR NZ we will still get access to *A departing LAX correct?

Wonder what Qantas think of that?

Although there's no cross access at LAX in their partnership.

That is still the case on the website.

Does anyone know if these are still the current hours for the EY lounge: 12:00PM - 4:45PM then 6:55PM - 11:05PM

And surely EK will be updating their current hours of: 12:00PM - 3:00PM

I guess this still wont matter anyway in a few months time. If the move is still on the cards to merge in with DL. It will only be Etihad and Emirates until around May-ish?

Still contemplating flying Air NZ in future between PER-LAX.

It's bizarre to lump Golds and J together and have Platinum on their own, isn't it? I feel like they'd be better off leaving Etihad to just J as it would be a very nice lounge if it was less crowded.

In any case I am a bit excited about this change as Emirates can't be any worse than Etihad's crowd and it will be a new lounge to try out.

LOL so weird. I hope the move to TBIT is delayed... I want to try out the Emirates F lounge in early June.

That's actually pretty common amongst a lot of airlines. When flying internationally, Gold and J typically have access to 'business class' level lounges, whilst Platinum and F typically have access to 'first class' level lounges (assuming the port in question has both business and first class lounges).

Not when F isn't part of the equation.

If crowding was an issue at the EY lounge with Platinum and J, sure seems like making it Gold and J won't improve things. Although I suppose Plats flying J will have a choice and it might help balance things out.

So I'm in J flying VA LAX-SYD and I'm a WP. I've also got *A Gold and SkyTeam Elite Plus. Still means Emirates lounge as far as I can tell, but if there are better options let me know.

I believe VA have would have done an analysis considering expected number of passengers for each category, space available in each lounge and cost.

The result would be with the arrangement mentioned being the best fit.

As for EK, they are apparently having revenue issues and by opening the lounge in the evenings would help alleviate somewhat the likely signficant cost of having lounge space at TBIT unused for 21 hours a day.

Just an update on this: this latest lounge shuffle shouldn't be considered a short-term arrangement until May 2017 when Virgin Australia shifts to Delta's new digs at T2/T3 because, despite previous indications, Virgin has now decided to remain at TBIT.

I think you mean move to T2 and J lounge ;)

The move FROM tbit.... my bad :D

Nice article David.

I'm guessing that large signs at TBIT of DL'S with the slogan along the lines of "all our partners under one roof" with the logos of all its partners including VA along the bottom will be pulled down or modified, noticed it earlier this month there. As people have said previously VA seem to be a bit all over the place, chopping and changing things. Nothing is ever certain with them.

Although for now I am quite happy with this as I do like TBIT and if the construction going on at T2/T3 is going to interfere heavily with PAX experiences for a while then I welcome it. So they will actually move their check in counter from T3 to TBIT soon?

No, but it is moving to T2 (does that count? Nah, didn't think so). T2/T3 combo terminal makes this less an 'issue', new checkin desk FYI will be at western-most part of T2.
