This is quite amazing stuff to observe. It just seems to be building and building. It is almost like the concert/charity drive last weekend was a little premature...

There are reports on Sky News that Brisbane Airport is about to be shut

Now they are saying it should be okay with no delays:?:

I was about to mention Brisbane Airport. It only has an Elevation 13ft so I would suggest it will be in trouble.

There was mention this morning of RAAF Amberley being evacuated.

ABC 24 just interveiwed GM Bne airport.

Iminent full airport closure due to floodwaters due within 5 hrs.
Possible closure for at least 2 days.
travelers advised not to travel to airport due to floodwater at pinkinba which is now being evacuated.
Major failures with communication and computor systems already occuring.
Major staff problems in getting to airport effecting 1/3rd of rostered staff.
Particular to ATC and airport emergency services personel.
Fuel supply contamination risk.

I am finding it difficult to comprehend all this.

but I might guess it would be highly dependant on the tide given how close they are to the sea.

I've already seen pictures on facebook from a guy from school with his boat floating in front of his house, next to his car not floating. I'm also a bit worried about a friend who I recommended that they live in Yeroonga.

Well there goes my brisbane trip, I'd say. :(

Major failures with communication and computor systems already occuring.
I've been told in the last few minutes that Vodafone and Optus mobile networks are down.
My thoughts are with anyone affected, lets hope that all AFF members are safe.

Can confirm that all RAAF Amberley personnel have been directed to evacuate and many non essential staff at Brisbane airport have been sent home:(

Would the owner of vehicle 555-ABC please return to your ark as the animals need feeding

Safe here, managed to get back to BNE from Maroochydore yesterday before it got cut off. Got 3 evacuees staying here tonight.

Brisbane is now expecting flooding worse than 1974 according to the current Premiers press conference, press conferences detailing the quickly changing conditions will now be every two hours.

I remember the 1974 floods very well. Imagine if we didn't have Wivenhoe Dam holding back over 2,000,000 Mega Litres from flowing down the Brisbane River .

I think she said if the rain kept falling as it is, so if the weather managed to clear up a little Brisbane could be spared, but it’s definitely time to pack up and wait this out well away from low-lying areas.

I thought it was getting close to 3,000,000 ML now! A problem in itself.

The modelling used is based only on current water flow on the ground, its a best case scenario and not a worst case scenario being talked about, hydrologists cannot estimate with any accuracy the effect of the rain simply because they have no idea how much is getting into the catchment area until it hits the sensors.

At no stage did the premier indicate that Brisbane would be spared if it stopped raining, that would be a most unwise thing to say.
