Heathrow currently closed

On QF 29 Was meant to be landing in LHR but it's currently closed, our flight has been diverted to Frankfurt, and we are currently sitting on the tarmac , they have told us Heathrow should re-open at 5pm (London time) what do you think our chances of getting to LHR are? Assume there is going to be a pretty big backlog?


Anybody else delayed due to closure of LHR?

Heathrow website is indicating 18:00 for re-open, and even then if there are large snow falls it could close again.

Could be a long bus ride....

Overnight in FRA it is! Currently being bussed to the hotel , will continue journey to LHR tomorrow morning 8am FRA time

Hmmm.

Heathrow Airport will remain closed for the rest of the day for arrivals and departures.

There are likely to be significant knock-on delays tomorrow and you should contact your airline before travelling to the airport.

It's going to be a messy day tomorrow.

Sat on the tarmac for 3 hours on Friday, waiting for snowstorm to pass and then de-icing. Don't plan on getting there anytime soon! Even a small amount of snow created major delays. The whole week will be a mess me thinks.

If you have trouble sleeping at the hotel there is a 3:05am train service from Frankfurt Bahnhof. It will get you to central London 10:26am.

QANTAS DELAYS OUT OF LHR - weather

Does anyone know the extent or flow on effect of these? Just heared it on the ABC all flights are affected.

Are you affected? Is there an update available?

With Heathrow closed tonight - things are a mess.

Here's the latest Qantas update:

Severe weather conditions on Saturday 18 December have resulted in the closure of London Heathrow airport. All scheduled Qantas departures for 18 December have been delayed overnight as a result. Please refer to our flight status page for updated information.

QF29 is currently stuck in FRA (see http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/travel-news/heathrow-currently-closed-27163.html ), so things are very messy.

Yes looks very messy, there must be a flown effect.

I am flying 29 Tuesday night, can't see it being sorted by then!

It might be. If the snow stops causing hassles then the airport will re-open and flights resume. Things can get back on track quite quickly... But yeah, there will be some cancellations ex-AU and ex-LHR.

I fly out to heathrow this arvo from Syd on BA010 and although Sunday looks fine for the airport to be open, monday (when we arv) is going to be snowing again.

Diversions are ok... but we are due to fly LHR-VIE late monday... sigh

Flying out to LHR this arvo with BA which should be fine. But I have a follow on flight to VIE monday I'm worried about.

I am on SQ222 SYD - SIN connecting to SQ322 SIN - LHR today at 16.30 and am concerned about this, going home due to a family emergency and this is the last thing I need.

Yeah I just called SQ as I am on SQ222 and SQ322 they have had flights diverted to Frankfurt I think. They told me to travel to Singapore and will get an update there, so that will be interesting. I have never been delayed due to weather like this before.

Go with the flow and maximize your entitlements!

It takes some time for people to understand whhat they can change and what they can't change.

Do you have status with SQ or traveling j or f??

Unfortuatly no status at this stage and I am in Y, was due to fly Tues, but unfortunatly I have a family emergency at home so pulled the flight forward asap. I have a pretty flexible ticket with SQ but yeah no Status etc?

I know SQ will have to pay overnight accomadation and meals/transfer etc and they have to get me to LHR as soon as possible. Think thats about it.

My flights are with AB and BA, (abba .. ha ha!) so will be interesting to see how any possible cancellations are dealt with.
