I'm a newbie, so sorry if this is dumb. Hopefully, I'm flyer from Denpasar to Sydney next year on Sun October 18 (QF 44). I am only bronze but have a bunch of points and was interested in booking classic reward business class seat. I know that they won't be available for some time yet, but having plugged in a bunch of dates between now and then, it seems that there are zero business class seats on QF 44 available, whichever Sunday I put in. I just wanted to confirm that my chance of snagging a business class classic award seat for that flight is negligible and I should look at other options (maybe the Jetstar flight, they seem to have a fair bit of business class availability or just paying if a special comes along).

Solution
Given that the OP is looking for a business reward seat, a comfort seat doesn't solve their problem.

cjscjs - Never a dumb question. I just had a quick look and you're right, there aren't really any seats available on Sundays for QF44.

Most people here would probably also say that JQ business probably isn't worth you using your points.

However, as you've pointed out, paying for a cheap sale fare could be worth it. I've frequently seen QF44 pop up for $1,000-$1,300 one way in business (or if you want to combine with QF43 on the way up, around $2,000 return).

You could look at alternatives for how you may use your points. Going to Singapore would involve backtracking a couple of hours and probably isn't worth it, however, I've had...
Buying a comfort seat booking might work.
Its when you buy your own seat and one next to you as well.
Have to phone up tho.
No taxes on seat next to you.
Have done it to NZ with QF.
You will earn QFF points and QF SC for both.
I think DPS - SYD is s very in demand flight, with QF.
Only a 330.
Or maybe pay to go to SIN, and then get QF1 SIN - SYD as reward seat.

Going to Singapore would involve backtracking a couple of hours and probably isn't worth it, however, I've had success paying around $100 for a cheap Economy seat to Jakarta (CGK) and then redeeming points for a QF business seat CGK-SYD (I've redeemed this exact flight on Sundays at least twice before too while only having bronze or silver status).

Thanks, I hadn't considered that. I have a few Garuda points that might get me to CGK; I'll investigate and see what the flights are like and if that might be a viable option.

Do QF fly the A330 or B737 to DPS from SYD?

I know that for the MEL-DPS route, they fly the B737, so J on JQ is actually better than J on QF (at least in my opinion). Might be controversial, but you just can't deny that the B787 is so much better than the B737 already, the seats are similar enough.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
