I took the upgrade e mail and applied for it but didn't get it approved until about 12 hours before the flight.

We are on QF7 with you and if our upgrade request doesnt come through then you can find us in 72A and 72B!!

Aggi I hope your upgrade comes though - if not you can find me in 71A and my 2 year old in 71B (my party also have 70A, 70J, 70K, 71J and 71K)

interesting - do you know what class your Y ticket is? I've got O class in September LAX-SYD with upgrade offered for exactly half those points so you must've got a very cheap price to start with.

I've got O class SYD - LAX too and its 90k for Y+ and 144,000 for J. I paid 2.7K for MEL-SYD-LAX then JFK-LHR-BKK-SYD-MEL ..not that cheap?

How do I find out what class my Y ticket is in?

I checked again and the upgrade offer states- "An upgrade request is for all passengers". There's another passenger on the same itinerary - would that be why my points required are double of your's?

My husband and I (sounds very regal) both received the offer. 60,000 points to upgrade to Y+ SYD-LHR in August. unfortunately we are on separate PNRs (due to the gift vouchers we took uplast December) he is Silver so if I get the upgrade & he doesn't he told he will be devastated, oh well them's the breaks.

On another note, I got the same offer in February (we were on the same PNR) and applied for an upgrade on HKG-BNE in June from Y to J. I kept checking flightstats and there were lots of seats in J. The flight upgrade was still noted on my booking when we left FCO on CX. We had a 12 hour layover in HKG and went straight to the QP. The dragon said no go at that stage. I checked a few times during the day to no avail. Also the request had disappeared off my booking. I did ask her to check if there was an error but was met with a singular lack of interest. At the gate, they confirmed there were 14 seats available in J. I asked them to check and they contacted Sydney, and yes for some reason there was a computer glitch and my request had disappeared off the system. With apologies we were upgraded, but it was touch and go as the gate was closing. I wasn't trying to pull a DYKWIA but just felt something was wrong. The fact I had the printout of my booking noting the upgrade request did play a part in getting them to check for me.

I took the opportunity to book J SYD - AKL last week during the J class sale for my wife and myself, part payment being a gift voucher in both our names. We are also taking our 16 year old daughter who I had to book separately because of the voucher. (These gift vouchers are sometimes more trouble than they are worth). I tried to be a smarty and did the bookings simultaneously up to the payments page but it got me by rejecting my daughters request at that point so she is now back in Economy. Anyway, even though I realise it's not particularly good value, I have requested an upgrade for her from MY FF account for 16K points.

My question is that me being gold, will this increase her chances of getting upgraded even though she is only Bronze seeing that it is me requesting the upgrade

Look forward to your replies

Hi Nickfromeastryde

Those vouchers come back to bite you, don't they? Qantas told me that my husband would have an easier chance if I put in the request using my points as I'm gold, but he would be behind the Gold's requesting their own upgrades. SO I think that means your daughter would be ahead of other Bronze and Silver.

Have put in my first upgrade request for J class for MEL-SIN (for 2ppl). Hoping it will go through.

For those without enough points to upgrade, take heart - this promotion likely means that you can buy your way to business at the airport for a reduced price just by asking...

I just saw that too and got it now why it required double points. There is another passenger on my itinerary too.

If you want you can always get the booking splitted but if S/HWMBO would appreciate it is another question

Wow that is an expensive upgrade.

I paid 144,000 points plus $ for my FASA LAX-SYD.

Interesting. Yesterday was just checking my QF12 flight on 15 Oct from LAX to SYD (that had recently changed to 747 from A380) that i requested an upgrade from O to J and noticed my selected seats had gone from economy. Got me hopeful that was going to get an early upgrade, but then this morning checked again and had been put in row 53, so checked the seating map and guess what, it was an A380. Havent been notified by QF yet though like they did when it changed from A380 to 747.

just applied, lets see if i get it, hopefully i can because this is the 2350 flight back to perth, and i need to be in the office by 730-8am on that tuesday morning, want to be able to get a decent sleep on the flight. I struggle big time in economy!

i'm bronze and flying MEL-LAX in August (bought the cheapest economy ticket on a promotion back in Feb) and i get a message saying the fare I booked is not upgradeable

Need to check my emails but I think the promotion was only valid for two days

how long does it usually take for a request to be approved/denied? never applied before.
