You can now use SmartGates when arriving in Australia from a yellow fever risk country

In the past, if you were arriving from a yellow fever risk area such as Africa or South/Central America, you would be ineligible to use the SmartGates on arrival as you'd need to show your yellow fever certificate to a Border Force officer. This would inevitably result in long lines if you were arriving on a flight from JNB or SCL.

This has now changed. You can now self-declare on the smart gate that you have a yellow fever certificate.

 
On my last 3 trips (2023, 2024 and 2025), I could use smart gate on returning from Africa. On one trip quarantine officials asked to see our Yellow Fever certificates though.
