Hello AFF,
Thanks for your very helpful tips and hints. My first post here.
After my next trip, I'm 20 SC short of QFF silver. I am doing all my flying in economy. Joined QFF in Nov 08, and with a few back dated trips MEL-AKL and my continued domestics, I'm looking OK for silver by July.
I know it's better to buy into priority by going QP, but I think, I have done alright seat-wise just by flying.
I will certainly be inticed by the QP, but can't justify it for domestic and TT's every second month at best As everyone says, it's about value.
Thanks

Welcome to AFF CoolHand...barely joined QFF and already (well, almost) up a level in status.

Hope you can stick around to swap hints and stories.

Thank you, tuapekastar.
I find this a very friendly and honest board.
Regarding hints:
OLCI has been my friend and I try to be as high a Seq Nbr as I can.
I'm always checking for that seat. Weird but even as NB I have been lucky. Brings into question where does status protect a seat next to you.
i.e, a seat shows unavailable, but is not occupied on take-off.
Think I have upset one pax when I OLCI to an available seat (window which I prefer), beside an obvious "business" person.
Can of worms re: OLCI and status. Can see it being eroded. On my last last flight ex-PER, more pax coming down escalators on final call from QP than "economy"/normal pax.

Welcome Coolhand,

If you are reaching PS (350SC's) purely flying economy, then IMO a QC membership may be worthwhile as you are definitely flying quite a few segments and thus will/can be visiting quite a few QP lounges.

Otherwise, happy flying.

Yup I think that's a good idea, QC is cheaper than buying flights to get gold if you just barely make silver in a year (It hurts when you can only afford discount economy tix and get 10 each way!) ...

I have QC when my SG expires! and remember if you have QC and then you suddenly get SG, they put a hold on your QC and it will resume when you are PS again :)

QP is absolutely worth it, especialy for the amount of flights your doing. I too usually only travel in Y, and whilst the idea of paying $650 may seem a bit rich, all it takes is a few delayed flights \ early arrivals at airports (easy to do in PER especially on a red-eye) and the club pays for itself.

I'm flying TT on Tuesday ex Melb, if you'd like to see what your missing out on feel free to let me know and I'll happily take you into the QP at int...

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!
I appreciate your suggestions and invitations.
Hopefully not long before I earn the SC required and I'll try QP for myself!
I'll keep an eye on the Meetings page: see you at the bar!
Cheers

Hi everyone,
Just made Silver! Certainluy different seeing the boarding pass with FF Silver Oneworld Ruby!
Bring it on!

I'd like to welcome CoolHand, but also to take the opportunity to scram out of here as fast as you can!

You can spend some serious money by listening to the old-timers here. First it's silver, then you hunger for gold and those frosty flutes in the lounge, and then you'll be planning overseas travel and picking up the jargon of xONEx and TSA and other horrors, and before you know, you'll be able to tell a B763 from an A332, Flounging and getting hotel loyalty cards and posting pictures of airline meals...

But fun.

Mr, I was wondering that too lol
I use TT for transferring money to my Canadian bank account from here :D

OK, so just made Silver. I get an invitation to QP right?
Sweet, I'm an hour early at the airport like always, and I'm thinking with my boarding pass showing my new status, I might be able to take the offer up...
Nup, according to staff, only the pass mailed out is accepted. There was a reference made to treat such a pass as cash. Somewhat disappointed, I exited the lounge and went to the bar...
Surely there is no better time to benefit from your being a FF than when you are travelling...
Cheers

You will indeed receive a Qantas Club invitation ; you need to hand over the pass to enter the lounge. If you attain OW Sapphire status, then you will be able to enter based solely on the status rather than needing passes

Though, of course, you'll need a boarding pass...
