Yet another cost saving measure - new FF cards

and your forearm will be scanned by ultraviolet wand at plane door  and your seat head rest will beep when you come to it, so you never sit in the wrong seat again

I am so looking forward to when we all get the under the skin microchips and RFID locators.

... Just a question, if no boarding passes how will we remember our seat number? I always refer to my boarding pass. And how will QF staff check when someone is already in 'my seat'?

I guess it will work however it works with NZ's little tag thing...
When you scan your chip, a shopper docket type receipt prints clearly showing your name, seat number, flight number etc.

The barcode will be used as a drinks token for your QP two free drink allocation that comes into effect with the "enhancements" on Apr 1, no bar code no drinks , thats the nightmare i had last night !

I wish you would keep your nightmares to yourself and not give QF ideas :!: (or us nightmares)

While that nightmare is scary and all, I can’t imagine Qantas would be foolish enough to try it. I could see QP numbers drop substantially as The Lounge numbers rise.

Would be nice if the barcode could be used for things like registering a Woolies purchase for Everyday Rewards. Link then to the one card so we don't have to carry so many cards.

How would you get your petrol voucher then?

Having a common card between the two companies would likely to require privacy declarations, and consequent admin overheads for the two companies.

It’d be great, but save for any really long term partnership enacted between the two companies, I think one would have to buy the other for this to be possible, and make sense.

However it does make a lot of sense that every EDR member should be a QF member too, so using a common card would be the best way to go.

So does the person who sits in my seat incorrectly also get zapped by the headrest?

So we still get a boarding pass in one form or another... so we aren't really elininating anything at all?

Hopefully avoiding novelty oversized current style boarding passes; something that can just nicely sit in the wallet like a train ticket would be good

You receive a small slip of paper similar in size to a receipt, it saves quite a bit of paper ;)

And could Y pax please remember to retain this little piece of paper. It is for use in the lavatory should the need arise. This will save further on costs. :p

At least it's still a card. UA changed my account number and when I rang up to credit points from a SQ flight they told me they don't send out cards anymore, to 'print one out' from the website so all you get is this coughpy little piece of paper!

QF do not send out FF cards to people outside of Australia until they reach Silver/Gold/Platinum levels. There is no real need for a card anyway if you're not a frequent-enough flyer to get status with an airline. As long as you have the number on your reservations, you're going to get your points :)

They will if you pay $25.00 ...

Is one way of getting around the QF Joining fee. Well before Woolies and Earth gave away free Q membership ...

Yeah true, but when I signed up initially in 2004 for UA they mailed a card out to me, which I appreciated - all the other foreign airlines I joined at the time gave the paper until you actually started earning points with them. Perhaps that explains why UA was so troubled financially!

I received my UA card recently... think paper thin plastic with details laser printed onto it. I could have done better with my printer!

After receiving my renewed Gold card and using for a month, I can actually admit that I like the new card better....:eek:

Sam,

What are you doing here at 0206 :?:

At least I'm in PER and it's still 1106 and that is a reasonable excuse.

I’m in QLD so it’s only 01:13, but about to head to bed.

Didn’t you know I post the most late at night, I’m an insomniac ;)

I don't know what it is with the new cards but I do not like them. I know it is just a card but still can't get used to it. Lucky my old Platinum card is valid until end of May 2010.
