Y+ row 30 in 3 class 747

We're booked on QF6 SIN-SYD next May, in Y+. By the seat config, it looks like a 3-class 747 (rows 29-36 are Y+). I can't select rows 29 or 30 anyway, they're all greyed for higher QFFs than me, but I'm curious about row 30.
Has anyone seen the leg room for the row 29 middle seats on the 3 class? I've seen it in the 2 class that usually flies QF15/16, and they're bog standard economy seats on that config.
I'm just trying to figure out what QF have done to that part of the row to make Y+ leg room. Does anyone know? :confused:
I will be trying to upgrade us on that flight, but I know it's a lottery, so I won't be holding my breath, and for them to upgrade all 3 of us would be awesome.
 
Economy rows 26-37 were removed to make way for the PE seating, so there will be plenty of room.
 
Row 29 and 30 is business class on this aircraft, but FF with Gold or Platinum status can select them when travelling in PE. I am on the same aircraft to Dallas in June and due to FF status we were able to choose row 29 even though we booked in PE. If u can select them it is well worth it as u will get a skybed :) It is most likely that you are on a 4-class 747 but with first class not being sold. Which means business class passengers can select first class seats, depending on status, PE passengers can select business seats from the last two rows and Economy passengers can select PE seats from the last 3 rows again depending on status. In row 29 and 30 is the seating config 2-3-2? If so then the above is the case :eek: If u can select row 29 or 30 u may save using ur points for an upgrade.

Look at the seatup on the Qantas website for the 747-400ER. It shows that PE cabin goes up to row 39. The reason why u can only pick up to 36 is that the higher status FF in economy will be able to select seats from rows 37-39.
 
In fact after a little more research, any 4-Class aircraft without first class being sold allows passnegers in economy to see any seat in their cabin plus 3 rows in PE on the seat selection map. PE passengers you will see row 29-36 on the seat selection. For Business class passnegers you will see row 1-24 in the seat selection map. I guess it all depends on your status as it usually would with any other flight. You could wait until closer to see if those seats in 29 and 30 become available but i would also put in an UG request in aswell.
 
I'm now SG, but can't select rows 29 & 30. Based on the Y+ layout, this is a standard 3-class 747 RR. Rows 29, 30, 35 & 36 are all 2-4-2; there's no 2-3-2 visible or selectable in the Y+ cabin.
I have lodged upgrade requests, can only hope they come through!
 
Hi there, i have row 29 booked on a flight to Dallas in a few weeks from now and now i got myself thinking..you are saying row 29a/b have restricted leg room..my question is how is this possible ? is the skybed smaller ? i thought legroom wouldnt be a problem as seat is a skybed..

This thread is about Qantas 747's in 3 class configuration. Row 29 is a PE seat on these aircraft (2x4x2) (see link in my previous post).

The DFW flights are initially to be operated by 4 class configured Qantas 744ER's as these are the only ones with the range to make the flight commercially viable. Row 29 in these aircraft is indeed a Skybed row (2x3x2).

The 747's that are flying to DFW are 4 class sold as 3 class which means that row 29 and 30 are skybeds. In the 747's that fly to FRA there are only 3 classes and row 29 and 30 are PE seats.

Now I am happier, I new about these changes but didn't realise had happened to me on this flight until now, a few weeks before.

I also have the option for row 30 but i guess doens't make any difference, right ?

I'm booked on a 3 class 747 from BNE to LAX on 9/9/2011 in Y+. (Never flown qantas internationally before)

The only rows available for seat selection are from 31-36. I'm currently allocated 31B.

I'm 6ft 5 so I would like any suggestions in regards to legroom. Is that bulkhead the best seat for me? Or am I better selecting somewhere else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
I sat in 31A on Thurs/Fri night on the LAX-BNE flight. There is a wall/ barrier in front of row 31, between the seats and the exit door, so while you don't have someone reclining in front of you, you also can't stretch your feet out fully (I'm 6'). It really depends on how you like to sit- stretch legs fully out or rather not be nobbled at the knees by a reclining seat. To be fair, this is the only QF Y+ seat I've sat in, so I'm not sure how reclining pax might affect a tall person.
 
Thanks Katie for the reply. I like to be able to stretch my legs out every now and then, so maybe I'm better moving to 32B. I've been searching for a photo of row 31 but I haven't found any.

I had a bad experience with a bulkhead on a Hawaiian airlines flight from Syd to Honolulu one time. I could hardly get my feet past 90 degrees. It was the most uncomfortable flight I've had internationally. Ever since then I've been suspicious of a bulkhead. I'm predicting my AA flight(757-200) from BOS to LAX in Y in September to be my worst domestic flight!

How quiet did you find 31A? When I selected 31B it warned me that it was near the galley.

I'm interested to hear your opinion of the Y+ seat/service overall?

Well ... after dinner was served, I took a couple of melatonin and pretty much slept the next 7 or so hours. The actual galley is on the other side of the plane, though I was woken by doors along the aisle, under the J stairs, being shut. I used the Y+ eye shade & had ear plugs with me, and I think I had the QF Y+ noise-cancelling headphones over the top. You are very close to the lavs, but during sleep time in-flght, there are curtains along the stairs and next to the lavs that are closed. I'd definitely have ear plugs on hand, though. Eye mask will be in the amenity kit (& ask for socks if you want them).

For food & wine, I've got pics of QF Y+ food and typed out the menus from some flights last year in the Trip Reports area of the forum. I'm still part-way through documenting a trip from last year. On all of those flights, I was very lucky to be in a J seat but Y+ service.
 
If you can get 29K there appears good leg room and that part of the aircraft seems more private.

Avoid 29A/B at the room is somewhat restricted by a coat locker.
 
Yep, the new three class 744. We flew back from NRT on one last month.

Note - avoid 29A/B they have restricted leg room do to Qantas decinding to put a closet in front - no such issue with 29J/K - plenty of leg room.

We're thinking about doing a JASA (now I know about it) to NRT next month & I've noticed that both legs are 747 - looking at the seat map it appears that first is fitted but sold as J......would be nice to try and secure an F seat.
